Hi, I'm a transfer student. I'm hoping to do a 3 year track with a double major in Econ/App Math. I'm not sure if my course load is too light or just right. I would like to spend my time during the year being social/finding a research opportunity.

Math 55 - 4 units
Econ 101A - 4 Units
Stat 134 - 3 Units

2 Units of Decal?

overall it depends upon your remaining class requirements (both majors plus any general stuff like AC) and the credits with which you are already assigned. First semester here, probably okay to take 13 units to be sure you make the transition well. If you entered as a junior with declared double majors you may be given the room to take another three years, while most transfers have a two year target to complete all remaining coursework. I would first confirm with advisors at L&S and your two major departments. If you have only 4 or 5 semesters to do all the work, it might require a higher minimum number of units and a carefully set sequence to do what you want.

You need to meet the 13-unit minimum. I suggest you add another 3/4-unit course.

if you are trying to do a double major, I’d recommend adding an extra course.

For what it’s worth, I’m starting an AC requirement tomorrow. I also spoke to math department and they said it would be fine so long as I don’t exceed 136 units after 5th semester.

one word: yes

challenge yourself to a new level ;)
