Worried about doubling up

What it do CC?

I am a prospective inter-UC junior transfer and am planning to double major in political science and economics (should I get into the major). Assuming that I complete UC reciprocity, I'm looking at around 15-16 upper div requirements that I have to complete in two years. I'm generally worried that I won't be able to graduate in time, but I know factors like how many units you take per semester and the ability to get into the classes you want do make a significant difference.

Any thoughts/advice for those in the same shoes?

4-5 classes per semester will get you there in time.

if you’re a declared poli sci should be much easier to get into your classes, just remember to snap em asap.

“Normal” course load is 15 units per semester (8 during a summer session if you choose to attend a summer session); most courses are 3 or 4 units, so a typical course load is 4 or 5 courses per semester (or about 2 during a summer session).

However, not all courses have workload in proportion to the units. Courses with labs, large term projects, or lots of computer programming tend to be much more work than other courses. So you may be able to take more units when you do not have as many of these courses, but take fewer units if more of your courses are high workload courses.

Do you feel that left time to be seriously involved in ECs?
Off topic: I’m doing intensive Chinese over the summer at Cal for 15 units. That’s more than double than average… 0_0
