Let me start by saying I had to write an appeal to get my aid back not going to go into detail I just think this is important.
Now fast forward I submitted all my documents for my school on March of 2014 so I wouldn't have any problems. As summer comes and dies down it is now august and I still didn't get my award letter, so I write the financial aid department asking them for an update. They asked if my mom amended her taxes I said yeah so they had me send in her tax transcript to show that she amended I turn it in on the same day. Now I am thinking i'm all good for now but nope they said that the child support verification amount didn't match my fafsa(which was a lie because i checked) they ask me to have my dad to write a statement declaring the amount he sent and have it notarized; which to me is just crazy. And now since my aid hasn't came yet my parents had to paid out of pocket for my classes.
Now my question is do you think that they are intentionally holding me up or is this whole process normal?

Did you use the DRT in FAFSA?

Yes I did

They should have got back to you but they didn’t. You should have noticed long ago that you didn’t have an award letter and called, but you didn’t… But if the amount matched, why not discuss that fact before jumping through the extra hoop. Say “I see 700 on FAFSA and 700 on verification, which match-- what do you see?” I really don’t think it is intentional. I just think it wasn’t completed and finalized.

Well last year I didn’t get my award letter until July 31st and so I waited till then. I wrote them August the 2nd and that’s when they told me I needed more documents also I did tell them it did match but they disregarded what I said and told me to send them the one of the requested documents.

I bet the problem is with the amended tax return. You should probably talking to them face to face or at least over the phone to sort out the discrepancy.

I don’t think your school would withhold your financial aid intentionally. I think they are doing what the Federal government required.

Occam’s razor says incompetence, not ill-intent.

It is not intentional because while you have to show child support on the FAFSA, no one gets credit for it on their taxes meaning your mother does not add the amount as income to the IRS and your dad does not get to write it off. The only way that they can verify this is either through a notarized letter from your dad or if the child support is being payroll deducted and going through the child support collection unit is to have them send a letter.

The time you are wasting with theories that they are out to get you would be better served assisting them in helping them process your aid as soon as possible.

I did talk to them face to face I give them the forms they asked for from my mothers 1040x to her tax transcripts. And also I am working with them I just never had my financial aid verification process take this long especially since class already started and I can’t pay for my books and supplies.
