This is a rough draft. The asterics is where I want to change some stuff. I mainly want to know if I have a good enough of a reason to be approved.
I also changed the dates and names of some things to remain anonymous.
I am writing this SAP appeal in hopes of appealing my financial aid suspension due to my low GPA (1.94).
When I first arrived at UC X, I began dealing with mental health issues. By the end of fall quarter, I was self harming.
While I am usually a motivated and hardworking student, I allowed my mental health to effect my academics. I should have never allowed myself and my academics to suffer as long as they did.
After spring quarter of 2016, I was dismissed for the upcoming fall quarter so that I could see a professional. I began seeing a therapist August 15th and immediately felt the effects in my day to day life. I felt more positive and motivated than ever before. Attached is a note from my therapist (showing improvement).
I was readmitted to UC X for winter quarter 2016. While I have made a full recovery, I will be making weekly appointments with the Student Wellness Center to ensure that I stay on the right path.
While out of UC X, I also took two community college classes that were required for my new major, Managerial Economics. I received excellent grades in both classes. I have attached an unofficial transcript from the community college. After taking classes in my new major along with learning about it on my own time, I know I have found a true passion in managerial economics. ** My advisor and I have been working closely on building a new graduation plan. I will be scheduling appointments with her monthly in order to maintain my academic progress.
I do not expect my new major to be less challenging, but I am certain that I will succeed academically once returning to UC X. After changing my major and seeing a professional, I am confident that I will raise my GPA to meet the SAP requirements. However, I plan on improving beyond the minimum requirements by attending success and study strategy workshops along with my professors’ office hours.
The timing makes no sense. You were dismissed after spring of this year, and then you began seeing a therapist on August 15th? That date is a month in the future.
What is your school policy? If you were dismissed to see a professional, some schools will have a minimum amount of time they expect you to do so before considering reinstatement. Some schools will require a professional’s signed statement that you are ready and able to return to a residential college environment.
I have to suggest that you figure out where you stand in terms of the professional help your school thinks you need. Resolving that issue should be your top priority…returning to college is secondary to that.
Are you asking the school to admit you for fall 2016?
The school thought I needed a quarter off, then I would be readmitted. I’m not worried about being readmitted, I’m concerned about whether my sap appeal will be approved even after seeing a professional and taking cc classes. I heard sap appeals are rarely approved, that’s my concern.
