I got a 1130 please someone tell me if this is good!!! Or even good enought for ucf?!
Check out the Common Data Set for UCF. The average score is 1181, so you are just a bit below that. The 25%/75% threshold is 540/630 CR and 540/640 Math Retake the test again before you apply and try to get your score higher so you can also apply to other higher ranked schools.
By comparison:
U Florida:
CR - 580/680
Math - 600/690
FL State:
CR - 560/640
Math - 560/640
Good luck.
What does your GC say? How much effort did you put into finding the answer on your own?
According to commonly available tables, this score falls into the 73rd percentile for new SAT scores in 2016. Also, according to the UCF website, the Class of 2016 had an average score of 1324 on the new SAT.
I will leave it to you to determine if your score is “good enough”.
“Also, according to the UCF website, the Class of 2016 had an average score of 1324 on the new SAT.”
You are correct, but I think the 1324 seems high as this is a converted “concorded” score (converting old SAT scores to the new table). I think the scores on the Common Data set (that I gave above) are probably a better gauge.
@londondad It seems to me that the scores you found in the CDS are old SAT scores – or perhaps some amalgam of new and old – since there are 3 components to them and most SAT scores for the Class of 2016 would be from old SAT.
I don’t understand why you cite only CR+M for your total of 1181 while ignoring the W score. I think you need all 3 for an accurate estimation… which is a total of 1739. Using the conversion tables (as instructed in the CDS) gives the equivalent ~1245 new SAT. Still not sure how the UCF website arrives at 1324, but probably involves some institutional methodology of which we are unaware.
As a “reasonableness” check only (since ACT to SAT conversions are problematic), the avg ACT of 26 is the equivalent of ~1260 new SAT. So our numbers are close.
It will be nice in a year or two when we no longer have to convert old to new…whew!
Indeed the new SAT score is a kind of inflated when compared with the old SAT score scale.
The SAT is a factor in admissions decisions in many schools. However, the importance of your score matters in the context of your transcript, letters of recommendations and any other information.
Schools admit a class from among qualified applicants rather than focusing on you. This is why a school admits sometime next you consider less qualified than you. apparently qualified applicants whom you consider less good than you.
If a school needs either more potential applicants in one program or fewer in another, then admissions decisions may factor in classroom space or number of desks or availability of faculty or other logistical factors. We are all antsy about our own applications, but admissions decisions are not as personal as you might think. As an aside, if I were admitted to a prestigious school, but my profile was among the lowest of new or recent admits, I wonder 'd save the admissions letter, thank the school for its offer and go elsewhere. Lots of kids have difficulty staying in school for lots of reasons. I would not put myself at increased risk.
