IB program classes
1. HL euro
2. HL bio -
3. SL chem (hardest teacher in the school.. if you get an A in his class you are guaranteed an A on the AP chem test... only a few kids get an A in their.)
4. HL Math (equivalent to having AP calc AB in first semester and AP calc BC second semester, first year being offered)
5. HL english
6. Spanish SL
7. Physics (taught by the chem teacher... this is just a normal course no AP/IB affiliation, but is extremely challening.)

Let me know what you think, I go to a top 25 High School in the US and most kids have schedules just as hard, am i going for too much? or will the tough course load prove beneficial to college admissions? I am willing to work hard so that is not a factor. Give me some feedback.

HL stands for Higher Level they are classes spread over two years. SL are standard level they are spread out over 1 year like a normal class. The Bio class is very easy most kids just read the book took some notes an got near 100’s in the class, the teacher is awesome his tests are hard but he teaches reallllly well. I am quite good at Bio and Chem… and Physics is a requirement at my skool… so its either this year or next… and ill be takin bio an chem next year anyhow

Wait, so is the SL IB?
Like I said, I wouldn’t take 3 sciences in a year.
I’d also be concern about taking 7 IB classes, if that’s what you’re intending.

But by all means, if you think you can do it, and you want to do it, then go ahead!
I’m taking 6 APs my senior year (this coming year) I know I’m going to die but its what I want to do haha.

IB is like a program you have to a certain amount of HL and SL classes and pass IB tests at the end of the year and if you do well enough you get an IB diploma. SL classes are taught over one year i believe they are easier than HL. Most students take an IB class than take both the IB an AP tests.

Honestly, here’s my thought, three sciences in one year is equatable to killer, but don’t ask us if it’s too easy. (Yet again, this is CC. You’re going to get people telling you it’s not challenging enough.) We don’t know you. Schedule postings on here are just to make sure your ducks are all in line.

I have a couple of friends who are taking 4 HL’s. You’ll be fine as long as you’re willing to work extremely hard. If you score well it’ll definitely make you stand out in college admissions, since students generally stick to the required 3 HL’s. The extra Physics class sounds tough, but it should balance off with your apparently “very easy” Bio class. Still, unless you’re planning on going into the field, taking 3 sciences might not be the best idea. Lab work will drain a lot of your time.
Good luck! This schedule is definitely first tier material.

don’t worry about it. i took IBD in junior year with 4 HL’s in addition to 4 science AP’s and it was manageable. if you’re good at the sciences, IBD will be easy for you relative to other people since humanities involve a lot of time consuming writing.

if you’re willing to work hard, it will be fine. try to get a head start with your EE/TOK and IA’s; those are time consuming. also, use your summer to do something fruitful instead of worrying about next year’s courses :)

Thanks a lot for the input guys I appreciate it. A scheduling conflict has come up though. Physics and HL Euro are only offered during 1st period so I will have to choose between the two. Physics is a challenging course but having another HL would do wonders for course rigor, either class is very hard so having one or the other wouldn’t make a difference in terms of toughness. I will have to choose one of those and Psychology will replace the other. I am not sure yet if the class is AP or not, if not then I plan on doing some self study for the exam possibly. Thanks for all the help guys its amazing!

Yeah their isn’t an option for Physics IB… Ok I guess I will stick with the 4th HL and just take physics senior year. Thanks a lot guys appreciate it!

My junior year schedule was actually very similar to yours! Actually, exactly the same except I did not do SL Chemistry, I did AP Chemistry. Weird because my HL’s as exactly the same and I took a regular physics clas (which was slightly challenging) and did chemistry, whoa. Let me just tell you that I had some times in Junior Year where I cried a bit, wondering how I was going to finish all the work. I am not too sure the variance between the course work between your school and my school, but it isn’t an easy path to take three science classes. (Your school is a top 25, mine is like a top 200 or something, so haha, I don’t go to as good of as school as you but still). I just want to let you know that it has been done (by me!) so it is of course possible (and I got all A’s so it is possible to do well too). It just requires a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get through Junior Year and don’t forget that you also have SAT/ACT testing, college research, Extended Essay, CAS, TOK (I don’t see that, but i’m pretty sure you have to take it as an IB student), Interal Assessments, and testing at the end of the year, and trying to keep some sanity by hanging out with friends ya?

It is possible, it has been done, so there is a way that this schedule works. I wish you the best of luck Junior Year!
