Hi guys! Got my scores back - and I'm drastically disappointed with my Critical Reading Score. Despite months of prep and work, I only managed to bring the score about by 20 points :-/

My score -
Critical Reading -680
Math - 780
Writing - 780
Total - 2240

So, think this is good enough? It's my second time. If I say I have a 4.0/4.0 GPA and two 770s on SAT IIs, does that make a difference? ARGH.

It’s competitive. However, it won’t make you. It won’t break you. Make sure you destroy the essays, continue your ecs, have great GREAT letter of recs, and you’ll have a fighting chance. But don’t expect anything. At these competitive colleges, admissions are sometimes precarious. I know a girl who had AMAZING ecs and recs but had a 28 and got into UChicago in Biology-Premedish major.

Competitive is all I need. I’ve been working on my essays non stop, my ECs I think are good (several leadership positions, dedicated to everything theater/drama/singing/dancing as well as several state level vocal rankings). So long as my SAT scores are not the scores that keep my out of the ivies/top schools, I’ll be happy enough not to re-take. and, thank you very much!

Fairly new to this so my apologies if another question isn’t appropriate here.
My daughter’s lastest SAT scores just posted and she has a composite 2230, a perfect match to her earlier PSAT. From other posts I’ve seen this is borderline to be in the running for the Ivies ( without a hook). Considering she brings a 4.0, recs extra curriculars etc. is there reason to hope that being from Alabama may be a positive factor in her favor instead of being from NYC or DC.?

^ Definitely. Admissions officers love to recruit students from the South and the Ivies especially. I’d say with great essays, that high of a GPA as you profess, and that high SAT score, she’d be very competitive. Being from Alabama is a hook actually!
