Is Polo Ralph Lauren or Abercrombie Better?

I mainly shop at American Eagle, just because I like their clothes a lot and for the most part it's reasonably priced. I don't care if it's not "preppy" enough.

Vineyard vines is excellent...and for your as i said earlier you cant go wrong with some nice ferragamos.

i hate italian crap...............

stick with the classic american look please.

vineyard vines is "southern" preppy, most of their ties can only serve as novelty ties. very creative patterns nevertheless.

not EVERYONE should shop at these brands...can you imagine the entire world in polos and khakis and ribbon belts/boat shoes etc? it would be horribly boring. choose your own style, whether it be unique or classic prep.

ive never even heard of vineyard vines what is it? i buy a lot of designer stuff and obviously AF, AE, and somemtimes hollister but i hate the collars at hollister. But I do agree I don't like the ones that just say ABERCROMBIE or whatever across the front cuz its just like oh look at me im wearing abercrombie. I don't mind the small little moose though

good point.

so let's kill this thread now. A world full of khakis/ribbon belts/sperry topsiders is pretty disgusting.

psh--what are you talking about? ribbon belts are way fun (but only if they have polka dots)!

You are from LA, you wouldnt have. I had never heard of it until I visited family friends in connecticut last year. Its like a super prep, kinda ugly (in my opinion) brand. its like umm there are bunch of them j press, theres this other brand that really popular out east. People out west dont wear stuff like that so dont sweat it, they are rather unfashionable.

who are you? who doesnt like italian fashion? american designers cant compare to european designers. just cuz its ridiculously expensive isnt a reason to dislike it

How is VV ugly? Its classic styling and top notch material. And quite a few East coast officials and execs can be seen rocking VV ties.

Website: <a href="http://www.vineyardvines.com%5B/url%5D">www.vineyardvines.com</a>
Spotted with VV ties: <a href="http://www.vineyardvines.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/photoGallery.viewGallery/nodeID/e8b882b0-a655-4a15-a004-cb8ef71a0a97/id/6401ac9b-6c0d-4f0f-8171-f846b854bcf9/%5B/url%5D">http://www.vineyardvines.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/photoGallery.viewGallery/nodeID/e8b882b0-a655-4a15-a004-cb8ef71a0a97/id/6401ac9b-6c0d-4f0f-8171-f846b854bcf9/</a></p>

i wear vineyard vines flip flops, got a lot of compliments. they arent ugly at all.

"who are you? who doesnt like italian fashion? american designers cant compare to european designers. just cuz its ridiculously expensive isnt a reason to dislike it"

I, as an individual, prefer American clothing-- the understated style. I just think the italian style is too flashy at times. I prefer the good old andover shop tweed 3-piece suit with natural shoulders to slim Zegna suits with darts. Check out oxxford, Southwick, etc. They can be more expensive than italian suits. I prefer the good ole' royal oxford button downs to Zegna dress shirts with cut-away collars. I prefer a good ole' repp tie to a flashy tie with 20 colors.

After all of these comments about VV, I just had to check out the website. To me it looks like Lacoste meets Baby Gap or something like that.

Those clothes seem to be going for neither trendy nor preppy. Looking through the site, the only things I would ever consider purchasing might be a dress shirt, but even then, I bet you could find something much better for the $125 price tag. Of the ties I looked through, I can't decide which is more stylish at the $65 price tag: the cheeseburger and palm tree or the lobster and corn. I guess I just don't get the cheeseburger ties or the fact that everything is in a pastel color (including pants??). Maybe I'd consider wearing something from VV when I'm 40.

of course. and yes, the vineyard vines is preppy. its one of the preppiest brands out there, and the stores that have it are located in super-preppy exclusive areas, not one of your local abercrombie or gap, so dont worry if you havent heard of it. i didnt know about it until a year ago, when i saw the brand in a uberpreppy town in florida. it is pretty darn expensive. my mom is a very practical person who wouldnt consider spending like seventy dollars on one of their sashes especially for me (she disapproves of common extravagancy for me since i am a kid who doesnt even make money)

they sell vineyard vines ties at bloomingdales as a matter of fact i believe they also carry some ties at bloomingdales online store

untitled: i agree about the flashiness of italian style (especially their suits)...for clothing I usually wear a classic american style (polo shirt/oxford shirt, boat shoes, khakis, with a nice ribbon belt) or a casual mediterranian style (aka some nice jeans, a nice oxford shirt, a blue blazer or sweater, and some nice casual ferragamo shoes).

Btw ferragamo shoes are not flashy they are relatively classic:
- Casual: Here I especially like the Cancun Loafer and the Anthony Drivers <a href="http://ferragamo.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/catalogPage.jhtml?itemId=cat127&parentId=cat125&masterId=cat102&cmCat=cat000000cat102cat125cat127&size=&sort=&tid=C9&viewMode=all%5B/url%5D">http://ferragamo.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/catalogPage.jhtml?itemId=cat127&parentId=cat125&masterId=cat102&cmCat=cat000000cat102cat125cat127&size=&sort=&tid=C9&viewMode=all</a></p>

i shop at lacoste(gotta love those polos), abercrombie&fitch, hollister, express, & bebe for the most part. nordstrom is a good place to shop as well. and i love the store "Image" in LA.

and banana republic has the best dress pants for work.

oooo can't forget armani exchange and H&M. armani has great material, and H&M is very cheap for the great fashions they carry.

whats the best way to wash lacoste polos so THEY WONT SHRINK???? can you stick them in the washer, warm water, and hang up to dry? will they keep their shape/size doing it this way? i just bought a few and am scared tehy will fit weird afterwards (they fit perfect now)...

in college i dont think hand washing will be a possiblity, and neither will dry-cleaning...

Damn..I handwash all my expensive stuff, except jackets and suits. Guess I won't be taking them to college.

ustas, lacostes doesn't shrink if you do it they way you do. You can also handwash them. Dry-cleaning is the best surefire way to get stains out, but they can damage your clothes - and they often nick/lose buttons (especially the mother of pearl ones lacoste uses).

i'd say polo ralph lauren would be my favorite. i just hate abercrombie and everything it stands for

Yeah, abercrombie is fake prep. Polo is preppy, but copying original prep.

Original prep is a lifestyle.
