I'm a rising sophomore, and I'll be taking Honors Pre-Calculus this coming year. Should I take the Math II SAT Subject Test in June or wait until after junior year, when I will have finished AP Calc (both AB and BC)?

Definitely take it after sophomore year. SAT II is pretty much pre-calc. If you wait until calc, you’ll forget much of the precalc. So take it in June after you’re done with Pre-calc.

Ok, thanks.

Preferably right after pre-calculus, but if you learn it well and don’t forget, you can also take Math II after AP Calculus. I took Math II after Calc BC and got an 800 on it.

Ok. Also, would an AP Chemistry class and studying for the AP exam prepare me properly for the SAT II Chemistry?

Math 2 is pretty much algebra, precalc, and trig.

AP Chem goes above and beyond the scope of the SAT 2. I was able to do well with just honors. so yes, AP would prepare you well.

Since AP Chem is much more advanced than SAT Chem, you can pretty much score 800 on Chem with very little to no prep.

Ehhhh. Math II is actually not that much pre-calc in my opinion xP What kinds of topics from pre-calc are on the test? I think it’s more based around algebra II. Stuff like probability, finding zeroes, interpreting graphs, finding simple limits, etc. Some geometry sometimes too.

A little trig and maybe logarithms. Also, linear/quadratic regressions. I don’t remember anything related to complex numbers, vectors, or matrices/determinants on the test. It’s pretty simple though; after an algebra II or pre-calc course, you should be prepared for an 800.

SAT chemistry is TONS easier than AP Chem. If you know what you’re doing in AP, just a week of prep before the SAT II exam will do the trick. The tests are a bit different, so don’t just hop into the SAT II test with no prep however.

I agree with the other posters. I took the Math II test after taking pre-calc and did well. There were no questions on matrices or on any of the particularly difficult topics covered in pre-calc. There was a bit of basic trig, but it’d say there was a heavier emphasis on Algebra II stuff. I was surprised by the amount of functions/working with equations questions on the test, but most of them were pretty simple.

Could someone help me out with my question. I posted it on another thread.
