Is registering for classes at SMC competitve?

I've read somewhere in this site saying that since the CA budget cuts, classes at SMC (particularly) become extremely competitive to get? Is that true? Can any SMC student help me answer this?
Btw: Does any one know how to get access to early registration (besides the earlier registration time for continuing students )?

Here’s a trick:
Priority is set by seniority which is actually ranked by units completed, not length of studying at smc. Thus, register for a super easy class while you are in high school or whatever you are doing before smc. Try the one unit classes like PE, tutoring, English or math assistance classes. That technically have you labeled as a continuing student. Put in some hours of minimal studying. Even if you have to pay, make sure it’s a book-free class or professor. 1 unit classses are cheap too. That’s one lopehole of the system. Give us more info about yourself.

Thnk DeadSupra,

being a continuing student allows earlier registration time but I’m a freshman and enroll in the Winter Session 2012. I graduated from high school already but have not enrolled to any classes at Santa Monica.

Im applying for the Scholar Program here, hoping that i would be able to apply earlier but im not sure if this is possible though.
