Is Rutgers a good fit for me? (How is their English Program?)

I went to Rutgers once over the summer & was overwhelmed by the size of the campus. I prefer larger schools to smaller ones but Rutgers was HUGE! I know they do have 5 campuses within the New Brunswick campus. So if I were to live on.. college ave, would it be likely for me to have to take the bus to a different campus very often? (I plan on majoring in English, & know the English Department is located on college ave)

Being in a nice college town is really important to me, being (preferably) within walking distance of places to eat, shop & hangout.
Going to a school with a good english program is also very important, would anyone happen to know how their english department is?
It's also appealing because it's close to home (A little over an hour away) & in state, so the tuition is low.
But I do often hear students from my high school saying they don't like Rutgers & that they don't want to go there, is there any reason why it is kind of.. looked down upon? Because I didn't see anything particularly off putting about it, except for maybe the size!

You may have to take some classes on other campuses; it’s hard to say.

If possible, look at some other schools besides Rutgers. You may like a smaller campus. Private schools are more expensive but depending on aid packages it may be more affordable than you think, if you are a good student.

Some people don’t like the hugeness of Rutgers. Some want to go far away from home. Everyone is different. I do think that you should at least look at other schools in order to be able to make the right decision for yourself.
