I am a Freshman in highschool. In the first semester I took all honors classes and a language. My weighted GPA was a 3.8 and my unweighted was a 3.4. As for extra curricular activitivities I am a swimmer which goes all year and take up most of my time. Since I got a few B’s first semester can I still go to Stanford?
I know students who got Bs in their freshman year and still went to Stanford. The main thing is to keep working hard and get your GPA up. I am pretty sure Stanford Admissions is more interested in 10th - 12th grade than 9th. If you can get your GPA and SAT score(s) into competitive range (check out Stanford’s Common Data Set page) then you have a shot. But many applicants with 4.0 unweighted and perfect SATs will still be rejected from Stanford, so it takes more than numbers to get in.
Stanford re-calculates GPA and doesn’t include 9th grade. But talking about getting in to Stanford st this juncture is premature, in any case.
If you are good enough to eventually become a recruited athlete for swimming, you’ll be cut some slack on your gpa and test scores. That said, you should still be aiming for 3.8+ unweighted sophomore to senior year and 2150+ SATs.
If swimming remains your only activity and you are not recruitable, it’s unlikely you will be admitted no matter now high your grades and tests scores are from hereon in.
