Is SUNY Binghamton a good school for computer science?

I am interest in applying to this school and majoring in computer science. I don’t have the SAT score for Stony Brook and I don’t like its location. Is SUNY Binghamton good to major in for computer science and do you know what job offers I can expect afterwards? Thanks

Yes. Binghamton is a top if not THE top SUNY school. Things have changed with the rising and out of control college costs. The public institutions are getting top students due to the affordable price tag. Bing has become difficult to get into. Many will be rejected. You will get a good education here and will definitely have job offers.

^^^Agree. I’d choose Binghamton over SB for almost any STEM major.

I disagree. SUNY binghamton CS program is good don’t get me wrong. Students go there and get jobs. However, stony brooks program is better academically, it has more funding, it is larger, closer to nyc which helps for jobs. However, stony brook may not be the best fit for every student because there are a lot of commuters. Binghamton is more residential. I would look into both schools and see which one is the best fit.

SUNY Binghamton has higher average SAT scores as compared to SUNY Stony Brook.

As a hiring manager for many years, when I think SUNY and CS or ENG, I think Stonybrook, not Bing.
I am sure Bing is excellent too, and if the SB campus/life is not for you, you can get a good education at Bing and Buffalo too. SB is not for everyone from a social standpoint, but from an academic standpoint it has been the top STEM campus of SUNY for many years. CS will be similar until you get to the upper level courses, and each school will have different capability of offering a wide variety of courses on a regular basis. An upper level course may not be available at some schools or only given every other semester. Look at the course catalog and focus on the upper level courses that you would take junior/senior year and see how often given, and compare.

Binghamton SAT requirements are significantly higher than Stony Brook. You should look into SUNY University of Buffalo (or Rochester Institute of Technology) for computer science with lower SAT requirement.

Stony Brook is known nationally for STEM CS and engineering. Binghamton although a good school outside of New York nobody has heard of it. Stony Brook and Buffalo have annual donations and endowment funds that completely outshine Binghamton and with all that money eventually will further pull away from Binghamton. I view Binghamton more like a good LAC school and Stony Brook as the flagship SUNY school. Definitely choose Stony Brook for CS. It’s a no brainer.
