Is Taking 4 AP Classes a Bad Choice?

I’m going to be a junior next year, and I’ve set out my schedule today. The AP classes I plan on taking are

AP Psychology
AP Physics
AP U.S. History
AP Language

I really do like physics and psychology, so taking these classes will be something that, although I will have some trouble, I will /actually/ enjoy. I’m only taking APUSH because apparently my AP World teacher said that since I plan on either going into the military or decide to join law, it’ll be good for me to take the class. For AP Lang, I’m really just taking it because of how awesome the teacher is, and I already know him enough to know that he’ll be a good one. All of my friends believe that I’m making a huge mistake and I’ll end up hating myself, but I don’t know how it’s going to end up. Will all these classes just take away from my social and home life?

What classes have you taken so far and how is your GPA / rank?

Freshman year: Algebra I, honors biology, art comp., honors literature, civics and U.S. world affairs, P.E./Health, and Spanish I.
Sophomore year: Geometry, AP world history, AP environmental science, honors chemistry, honors literature, Spanish II, and art class.
My GPA is a 4.0 or 97.56 and I’m ranked 25/361.

Is your current schedule requiring you to stay up late studying or is it manageable? My son is currently a junior and taking four AP’s classes. It can be time consuming, and can depend on the teacher. He took APUSH last year and it did take a lot of time. This year he is spending more time on hw and studying than last year, but he rarely has to stay up late. If you are not over committed with EC’s, a job, etc. and can dedicate time, then take those classes that really interest you or you want to be challenged in. If you do not have interest in a class, it will make it more difficult. Evaluate what is best for you and good luck!

I’m taking 4 APs right now, and its honestly not bad (ap psychology is pretty easy, I’m taking lit instead of language but it’s also on the lighter side at least in my school) but having taken APUSH last year, it is extremely time consuming. I took it with no other APs, and I found it challenging to manage my time. I would ask people at your school who have taken APUSH and see what they say, but if it’s not an extremely hard class at your school I don’t think it would be too bad

Thanks for the advice! I do know some people who have taken APUSH, and I’ll definitely get their opinions on it.

I took AP lang and I just want to say that you get WAY WAY WAY more work assigned compared to taking English 2 in college (well in my experience anyways). Essay writing every week, vocab every week, and you read a good amount of books and do projects.

Considering your current GPA and course load, it seems doable.
