Is taking 5 AP Classes for Senior too much?

I will be taking
AP Government
AP Calculus AB
AP Lang
AP Statistics
AP Physics 1

I took 3 AP classes last year and felt it was fine but wasn't sure if 5 was too much for senior due extra time spent to prepare for college. (I took AP Econ, AP Psych and AP Chem).

I don't deal with stress very well. Would this be too much for me? How many hours a night would I have to spend for these courses?

No one here can really answer that. For some students, five would be unbearable. For others, it is just like taking five normal classes.

You’ll be taking 5 AP exams but it’ll be more like “4 AP classes.” Physics 1 and Gov’t are only one semester long AP classes.

If you felt 3 was fine then 5 total shouldn’t be too big of a problem your senior year. Statistics isn’t too tough. Depending on your math skill calc shouldn’t be too rough either. The two math AP plus the physics classes shouldn’t have too much homework compared to Lang. I haven’t taken gov’t so I’m not sure about that class.

So you won’t be doing too much homework but you may have to spend extra time studying. Just go with your gut feeling! Usually right

@jdroidxw Physics 1 is a year long course not a semester

Go for it. But if you find yourself getting a slew of B’s and C’s AND you’re studying, drop out. All it would do is downgrade your GPA

@jdroidxw‌ Gov is also often a year long course. please don’t make assumptions unless somebody specifically posts that. And as stated above, Physics 1 is a year long course.

The information presented in both gov and physics 1 is equal to one semesters worth of college material. Regardless of whether your schools make it a semester/year long course you’re still learning the same amount of material. If your school makes those classes an year long course then that just means a semesters worth of information is spread over a year making the learning process less intense. Compare those classes with two -semesters worth of information such as biology…you’'ll be learning much more information.

Sorry if it sounded as though I was assuming whether a class is a semester long or a year long; I was merely taking the amount of information (college semesters worth of information) in an AP course into consideration. Those are no assumption.

@jdroidxw‌ most aps are the equivalent of one semester of college work, so i don’t get your point… Calc AB=calc 1, which is one semester. ap stat is a typical semester college stat class, ap lang will only get you out of one semester of english in college. ap music theory gets you out of intro music theory. APUSH gets you 1 class credit. The list goes on and on.
Exceptions include AP Physics C (if you take both exams, many hs offer both classes combined into one year long class) and AP Calc BC, most foreign languages, and (AP Bio and AP Chem depending on the college, which most colleges ive seen only give 1)

Forgot to mention that I have a 4.0GPA unweighted. AP Gov and AP Physics 1 are both year long courses at my school.

You’ll be fine IMO none of those are “death” APs. It’ll be a lot of work but not impossible.

IMO unless your applying to top 20 schools you shouldn’t be taking 5. I took 5 (AP calc and AP gov from your list) as a senior and I didn’t get to enjoy my senior year like all my friends. I still ended up getting into the school I wanted to go to (average selectivity) and I feel like I would have been admitted anyway if I didn’t take all those classes.

I don’t know you, but I think you could do it. Like guineagirl96 said, none of those AP classes are known for being among the most difficult AP classes/tests. AP Stats especially isn’t bad. As long as you’re okay with doing a lot of work, you’ll be okay. Just don’t get lazy.

If you took 3 AP last year and still get 4.0 GPA, it should be fine to go with 5 this year. These are not very challenging AP classes anyway.

You should be fine. Gov, Calc AB, and Stat are usually not considered very hard classes. Since you survived AP Chem, you should be fine for AP Phys 1.
