Is the Chemistry ALEKS mandatory?

I will be a computer science major in the CNS this fall. My degree plan does not require me to take chemistry, so I do not ever plan on taking CHEM 301. Do I still have to complete the chemistry ALEKS by the end of the summer?

You only have to take the exam if you plan to take CH 301. So, if your degree plan does not need the class, or if you are planning to get the credit for the class through AP/IB/CLEP exams (like I am planning to with my 5 in AP Chemistry), then I’m pretty sure you do not have to take the exam. I don’t see any other way why you need to.

^This is correct. You do not have to take the chemistry ALEKS exam unless you are going to take that chemistry class. Claiming college credit through an outside source (AP/IB/CLEP) will give you the credit so you wouldn’t have to take the ALEKS for that.

So at orientation I don’t have to take the in-person chem ALEKS either?

There is no in-person Chem ALEKS. It is all done online (as far as I’ve heard), and you have to have done the Chemistry Warm-up before orientation to take the ALEKS exam (which is, again, pointless if you are not taking CH 301 for the fall semester).

The Math ALEKS has a written assessment during day 2 of orientation, but none for Chem ALEKS.
