Is the SAT I score the primary factor of determining financial aid?

Will a high score on the SAT guarantee me a financial aid that would cover 80% of all expenses? (Income <15000$)

Not necessarily…the combination of SAT I and gpa, and sometimes class rank, will determine merit aid at many schools. Many of the most generous, well-endowed colleges in the nation do not award merit scholarships and all financial aid there is need-based. Need-based financial aid is determined by your EFC under both the federal method, ie. FAFSA, and the institutional method, ie. Profile or the school’s own FA application.

With an income under $15K (is that right?) you would be eligible for the maximum Pell grant ($5750 for next year, I think), a $5500 freshman Stafford loan, whatever your state offers if you meet their conditions, and probably some additional loans and grants. A merit scholarship on top of that might get you to 100% or might not…depends on the school, their total cost of attendance, and the availability and amount of institutional aid there.

No, the SAT score alone will not guarantee you 80% of all costs being met for college. For international students, there are not very many schools that award significant merit or need based aid to international students.

I’m an international. Rule out FAFSA or so

80/100 GPA+2000SAT+800/800/800 SAT II+rec2+ec(like hobbies)=chances?

Oh…yes, you need to stipulate that in every new thread you start on this forum! This is not the proper forum for chances threads, but the 80 gpa may be a major problem in obtaining merit aid.

^
I didn’t ask what would be an obstacle; in fact, I was wondering about my chances of getting a 80% aid coverings in “financial aid” forum, which is an appropriate place to ask.

Perhaps constructing complete sentences when you’re asking a question would be useful but I understood what you meant and answered you…without merit aid due to having a low gpa (ie likely inadmissible for the few schools which offer internationals significant need-based aid), your chances of having 80% of the cost paid for by the school is likely very, very slim.

chances of full aid with those scores/gpa is likely 10%.

I thought your SAT was in the 1600s on your other thread?

My SAT is a 1690. I considered estimated application.

Nice, Greed, but just wondering if your chances calculator factors in the admissions rates for the schools that guarantee to meet need for internationals and applies a secondary factor for those that are in the lower quartile?! Unless the OP is a recruited athlete, I’m guessing the probability will be a smaller number than that!

student with parent’s income <15000$ and my estimated stats, what to do?

You’ve asked the question in a number of different ways. Financial aid is not automatic for international students and very difficult to find and obtain. You ask what to do and the logical answer is to attend college in your country. Other than that you can only apply and see what happens knowing that the chances are very slim that you will find a college in the US willing to fund your education. Great GPA/SATs/ACTs help but there are no guaranteed avenues. You will most likely find the best information regarding scholarships for internationals in the international student forums because a large amount of posters are asking the same questions…
