Is the U. of Miami a Joke?

In nearly all of the student reviews tha i have read, it has been said that the University of Miami is just one big party school for rich kids. Ive heard from studentreviews.com that all the students are snobby rich kids who do not care about academics and just went to maimi for the location and to party

Is this true?

Totally.......100%......bought their way in and haven't stopped partying.

Should i go there? I plan on majoring in the business department.

I dont reall study alot, i hardly studied at all during high school and still got pretty good grades.

I like partying as much as the next guy but probably only on fridays and saturdays during college.

Is the social life at miami out of my league so to speak?

Lots of college FROSH get intensive party training in what the school calls: New Student Orientation.......you can catch up.

.......yes

I've read a lot about U of Miami being over-rated as well, and mostly rich kids. Yet this year it seems like it is very competitive to get accepted and/or scholarships.

Any input about how this university would compare to an in-state university experience? Could it possibly worth the extra money if my son was not awarded a scholarship?

hazmat, you are majoring in sarcasm, right? LOL.

Quite good actually.

OP, Umiami is a fine school that like USC or Vandy or Wake or many others will have a % of Richie Rich party girls and boys. Don't worry. There will be plenty of students that share your "parties are for weekends" attitude. It most certainly is not considered a "joke".

is this the ohio one you're talking about?

Although in this case it might be true, I don't think partying necesarily means rich/spoiled/snobby.

coolkash, he is talking about the one in Florida. The school in Ohio is called Miami University not University of Miami.
