...the time it is received? Is this delay significant?

I'm getting really paranoid because the due date is Tuesday and it's almost Monday. I'm nearly finished with my essays, but one of my teachers hasn't submitted her recommendation (she promised she'd have it done this weekend). Only one teacher recommendation is required for the college I am applying to (University of Michigan), but I wanted to have two just in case.

Will they penalize me if one of the teachers does not send it on on time? I already have one of the recommendation letters.

You should be fine - I’ve heard colleges are a lot more lenient regarding deadlines for teacher/counselor recommendations.

At least, that’s what my counselor is claiming and what I hope is true - she’s not going to have my rec done until like a week after ED deadline…

sintralin - Actually, U of M requires that ALL documents (including supplements and teacher recs) be submitted by November 1st.

JEM611 - Hmm…that’s a bit worrying…seeing as I haven’t sent it in yet.

So I’ve reminded my teacher yet again today, and she said that she would submit it around noon. It’s almost 5PM and it still says that she has not submitted it.

As I read this directly from the UM website, it looks as though the teacher rec has to be “postmarked” by November 1.
