I tried using this http://schools.nyc.gov/schoolsearch/ to find some schools in NYC, but then i went to niche and found out that schools.nyc.gov did not have many private schools that I saw on Niche.
Is schools.nyc.gov actually only public and not private? Is there a better search engine that I can use to find high schools?
nyc.gov is the domain for the government of the City of New York, so yes, all the schools there are public schools. In addition to Niche, there is a subforum here dealing with prep schools:

You can search for independent schools on the National Association of Independent Schools’ website [url=<a href=“http://www.nais.org/Users/Pages/SchoolSearch.aspx?src=topband%5Dhere%5B/url”>http://www.nais.org/Users/Pages/SchoolSearch.aspx?src=topband]here[/url]. (Note that not all private schools are independent.)
