i know that everyone on here has great sat scores and a high gpa. but for me, an average student who wants to reach for the stars and get into a good college with a decent record, i'm just wondering if there's anyone on here who is average and could lend me some advice.

once again, i have a 3.4 UW UW GPA, a 3.9 W GPA, a 1940 SAT score and a BAD junior year with a D and 2 Cs, amongst all As. any help would be appreciated.

Bull! "Average" stats would be around 2.5 and a 1500/2400 SAT. Your SATs are above the 85th percentile. There are LOTS of schools out there that are your targets and safeties - like, most schools in America! At what geographic areas are you looking?

ok, compared to all u guys, my record sucks!! u might think that i'm crazy, but i'm just going to apply ed to northwestern. why not, right? but i'm looking at reach schools like southern cal, florida, and brown. but my safety schools are definitely IU, emerson and maryland.

i'm so frustrated. i totally blew my chances at getting into a good school. :( :( :(

If you were truly "average" you would probably have a 3.0ish with grade inflation, be taking maybe one or two honors/AP classes and have a 1500.
"i'm just going to apply ed to northwestern"
An "average" student would be applying to a state flagship and one or 2 others, maybe satellite campuses, etc.

You're not average - the typical CCer is just... abnormal.
There are plenty of good schools that aren't in the Top 10 US News report. As someone above said, most of the colleges in America would accept someone with a record such as yours.
I would stop comparing yourself to others and focus on finding a college that will suit your needs.

Um, unless you're in-state for University of Maryland-College Park, that's definitely NOT a safety anymore. They received a 19% increase in applications last year, with over 27,000 applications. Some of my friends got bumped to spring semester.

Even in-state, with a relatively less than stellar junior year, I would not count UMCP as a safety if I were you, perhaps a high match at best or even low reach. It's really competitive now.

I hear you, I asked for suggestions for a B+ student and these folks recommended Tufts and Bucknell and Lehigh. Hah. Hahahaha. Too bad, those would be fabulous schools and I'm sure my wonderful child would do well there once in, but the gettin' in isn't gonna happen. At least not a chance according to Naviance.
