<p>A friend there told me:
1.The transportation system is not that good, without a car is really inconvenient.
2.It's relatively regional, outside Texas, in the north Rice is not that well-known
3.The job placement for engineering concentrates in engery/oil industry.
4.The dorm and food is not satisfying.</p>
<p>Rice is for sure a great school , yet there does exist some shortcomings.

<p>Anyone who says the dorms and food are less than satisfactory is a whiny, entitled little *****.</p>
<p>to clarify, some poeple whine about food. Yes, some aspects get monotonous sometimes and some nights, the food isnt that good (conversely some nights it kicks ass)</p>
<p>However, as a vegetarian, there is plenty of good stuff to eat and there is even more variety (loads more) for non vegetarians.</p>
<p>They just got rid of some vegetarian stuff due to budget cuts, which is really my only beef with the serveries. That and no coffee lids = guaranteed stains on my shirt on at least a weekly basis.</p>
<p>But there was a fairly recent lengthy thread on things people dislike about Rice. Search!!!</p>

<p>I have been wondering about the food though. Is there one cafeteria per residential college? Making it like 9 cafeterias? Would any of you say that the food is greasy? My mommy cooks foods that have almost no sodium, fats, fatty dressings added (by her), so I’m hoping that I’ll be able to eat relatively healthy foods. The only reason I can get away with little exercise is that I don’t have the opportunity to gorge myself on stuff like cheetos, doritos and takeout.</p>

Right now there are 6 serveries, Weiss and Hanszen share South and Brown, Jones, and Martel share North. The other 4 have their own. McMurtry and Duncan are going to share one and a servery is being made in the construction that Will Rice and Lovett will share, I’m pretty sure. I doubt the chefs go to the lengths that your mom does to keep the food that healthy, but there are always options and you will just have to learn to choose the right foods.</p>
<p>most of the food is healthy, but yes, there is pizza and french fries as well. So pick carefully and visit the salad bar every once in a while.</p>
