Is there still hope?

Hey, my two top choices. :D I'm in the exact same boat, my friend, trying to figure out if I'm good enough or not. xD

W&M offers summer interviews, which will available for sign-up starting May 1, 2009. W&M also offers Early Decision, and if you're positive it's your top choice, I would suggest applying by the November 1 deadline (unless you're not ready, of course :) )

UVA doesn't offer interviews or ED/EA. It's also a HUGE college. I prefer a smaller college, so W&M is my top choice, followed by UVA.

ED is a big decision to make, mostly because it's a binding application. If you apply ED, you WILL attend unless something horrible happens and you literally can't. It's a contract you make by applying ED. ED is mostly for students who are POSITIVE that W&M is their first choice and there won't be any backing up.

If accepted ED, you are required to withdraw all other applications to other colleges.

Yes, about 40% of ED applicants get accepted, as opposed to the 34% acceptance of RD. Higher, yes, but your Guidance Counselor was partially right. ED is a pool of the best of the best who know where they want to go. I would expect that for many RD applicants, W&M is not their top choice.

So, yeah, your pretty much applying into a pool of the best, but not just the "perfect scores" get accepted. Colleges like intelligent students, yes, but also well-rounded students.

Conquer the SAT/ACT, and write one heck of an admissions essay. Get the best recommendations possible, and really try and show that you are the right student for W&M. BUT, most importantly, show the real YOU. Numbers are numbers, but no one can be the same you, and colleges want to see you and want to know what kind of person you are.

A flat boring application full of high scores with absolutely no personality in the essay other than "I want to go to your school"?

Or a application full of good scores, but not the highest, with an essay that details a personal journey of discovery and growth that conveys the real you?

Which do you think catches will catch the adcom's attention?

Anyway, enough ranting.

Yes, you're on the right track. You've shown great improvement, which colleges like to see. Overall, I think you have a great chance, and I don't think you should stress about it. When the time comes, just be yourself. ;)

EDIT: Forgot, I'm visiting W&M on March 21 :)

thanks for all the advice Lkei!
so, to clarify, i shouldn't apply early decision?
I am extremely determined to do my best in school from here on out (I've learned my lesson the hard way!) i got all a's for semester and i WILL continue this, and next year i will be taking 5 mabey 6 ap's and i am confident that i will do well again (not in a cocky way).
but i feel very stressed...
and i want to know if i get accepted asap.
ughh, it really is a difficult choice, but i think i will apply rd.
& as far as the W&M campus! i've been there a lot. i think its kind of talked up, because there really isnt that much to do in williamsburg and areas that surround it (yes some will argue but it is the truth).

& as far as the SAT's...
do you think schools esp. W&M puts an emphasis on this or the acts?
thanks

buuuuuuump

I would aim to do well on both the SAT and ACT and send both scores. =3

If you want to apply ED, do so. =3 There are many pros and cons both ways.

You'll get to know sooner and have more time to prepare if you get accepted. But, if you get deferred, it will likely damage your confidence and stress you out.

If you're really worried about that, applying RD may be the way to go. But really, do a little bit more research yourself first...say, email admissions? Just go to the "contact us" on the bottom page on the W&M site and voice your concerns and questions to them. I've emailed them for many things, and they're a lot more helpful than I bet I'm being. xD

I would weigh your options. Don't stress though, you still have a while to decide. :)

OH LORD, I just reread my last post and realized how many grammar mistakes it has. :([/end picky grammar tendency]

im trying to do sat review right now on my own, but i dont know any good sites!?
i have the sat online course but all that has is a bunch of past sats with little explanation, i want something that can help me and has a decent explanation for solving the problems.
do you/ anyone know of any good (particularly free :D) sites that offer this kind of preparation.
or what are some review books that anyone reading this recommends.
its a bit overwhelming when google shows a million results for sat review, and when you go to the library there's a whole shelf of books with at least 500 pages for books.
basically what i'm saying is i want to cut it sweet and short and still have some good explanation.
any help?

and as far as w&m i think i will have to do that! :]
who knows mabey ill get some better answers haha

Well, I have the Official study book. You know, the big blue book? Really, your best bet is to just take as many practices as you can and then evaluate yourself.

-What do you need to work on?
-What will you only need to review slightly before the test?
-What are you getting perfect scores on?

And I don't just mean sections, I mean particular types of questions. Many people will be good at say, fill in the blank vocab in the CR section, but really bad at the reading selection based questions.

Things like that. Figure out your strengths and weaknesses and then work work work! ;)

bumppppppppppppppp!

pleaseeeee!

:]

ill return the chance.
theres nothing better to do on this site, hah

bump...........?
