k..
I screwed up the speaking section -- i got 24 because I had
flu when I took the test and I coughed like crazy in two
passages and I screwed up big time. I got decent score
in other sections and I got total 108 and I want to amke
sure my toefl score is ok with Ivies -- harv, yale, colum etc
I don't know what to do...
ps. where do I get info regarding to minimum/average toefl
score for universities mentioned above?

Nah. The EXACT same thing happened with me. Most colleges don't even consider the speaking section.

Or rather, many colleges don't even consider TOEFL..(Many will substitute it with your SAT CR score....Mostly it should be 600-650+..)..

TOEFL scores are considered on a pass/fail basis. You got above 100, so you passed. Congratulations :)

TOEFL is a stress buster amidst the SAT, Subject Tests and ESSAYS.

Really?
Oh, man... my TOEFL scores are waaay better than my SAT reading scores... :(

^..I would like to clarify that SAT scores are not substituted..But, TOEFL can be...
And, there is a vast difference in SAT and TOEFL...

yeah, not many ppl are used to speak to a computer...:S
Toefl is just unis want to see if ur level of English is up to their requirement.. so as long as its above 100, 100 and 120 doesn't make too much difference

108 is actually very good. If you compare your score with scores from other students you will see that you did good enough regardless of the coughing.

I had 108 points myself and never met anybody with a higher score...but honestly I didnt really search for such people :-)

Hello,

well, it depends. I can say I have same score as you do. 106(24 speaking). The thing with speaking section is that its mostly needed for you to even apply for a TA in the 1st term. As far as I know they require 26/27 from speaking on TOEFL iBT. However, some schools can offer you a conditional TA - meaning you will have to take a speaking test on arrival.

It's really good, but to be safe I would take it again and get over 110.
I got 24 on speaking too.

If you have time to retake a TOEFL with a score of a 108 (which is average score for most Ivies, according to the International Student Handbook by CollegeBoard), then you should rather focus on your SAT's, ACT's or essays.
I got a 110 myself and it got me into the most selective schools.
I agree with Barium. Would you have a score below a 100, you may have wanted to consider another session.

no need to get 120...

I got 24 on speaking too!I was a bit distracted by the bar showing the time though.
I think 108 is a very good score(btw I got 110).

above 100 is fine. you don't have to retake TOEFL and waste $170

Toefl is a financial waste. I remember that I did not even know what the exam was about and took it. I managed to get a 297/300 on the CBT. That did not stop me from getting rejected at several schools who received my score while I got accepted at schools that did not receive my score. I don't think it is considered much in admission. Don't worry about your score- I would worry more about the SATs.

Could you send me the money you plan to use to retake?

As a side note use the money to register for an additional SAT.

well what if you have just got 100 and not 100 plus . Will that score do for ivies and MIT .
My scores are R-24 , L-25 , S -26, W- 25.
