Is this a good UC personal statement topic for prompt #1?

Here's the prompt:
Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

I'm thinking about writing about my maternal grandparents (with focus on my grandma). They moved to the U.S. from China when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. They've helped my parents a lot by babysitting, buying groceries, cooking, cleaning, ect. However, they fight constantly about anything and everything. It's my grandma who usually starts the bickering. She nitpicks every thing my grandpa does and berates him. She doesn't do this to anyone else. I admit, he sometimes does stupid things, but the arguing is excessive. In addition, she doesn't care where they are or who they're with. She'll yell at him in front of her kids, her grandkids, in front of extended family, family friends whether we're in the comfort of our own home or out in public.

The lesson I learned from this is I don't want to live life focusing on details that won't matter later on. I'm not going to live an unhappy life. (I'll elaborate this a lot more in the actual essay.) Then, I'll make a transition to how I want to finish college, go to medical school, go into a residency program, and be a dermatologist.

I don't want to sound like I'm not grateful for the things my grandma has done. Would this come off as too harsh?

I figured students usually talk about people in a good light and I think it'll be slightly more original to talk about a quality I don't like about someone and how it has a positive influence on me.

Very interesting idea. I’m doing something similar with describing how the decisions my parents made have influenced me to do something totally different with my life. I say go for it :]
