Hello, I am currently a high school senior, and was wondering if this schedule was rigorous enough for STEM oriented schools like GaTech or for engineering majors.
AP Micro
AP Psychology
AP Statistics
AP English Literature
Dual Enrollment Spanish 4, Sociology, and Environmental Science
I do have room to do two online courses, but there are no other APs I can take at my school. I have already taken Calc AB/BC, Physics 1, Chemistry, World History, Computer Science, US History, Human Geography, English Language, and US Government. I don’t really know what else to take, and any other option at my school is a regular class or electives.
Hello, I’m also a high school senior interested in STEM for a major in biomedical engineering to then go to med school. My schedule is: AP Bio, AP Psych, AP Gov, AP Calc BC, AP Spanish Lit, orchestra.
I’ve been told my schedule is definitely rigorous enough and I’ve already taken AP Stats, AP English Lang, AP Spanish Lang, AP Micro, AP Macro, AP US History, and AP Physics 1&2. I’ve taken a bunch of honors and regular classes too, and kept orchestra all 4 years of high school. I think your schedule is plenty already, especially considering it’s senior year, but you could take some easier electives that you’re interested in (I’ve taken a handful of digital graphic design courses and ceramics).
Your schedule is definitely packed, but when it comes down to it its how you do in the classes that really matters,
I would say this is not the senior schedule of an engineer to be.
Not at all.
You need to take a math…I would suggest Calc 2 or 3 (Multivariable) Dual Enrollment depending on what AP score you got. Or even AP Statistics if that is all that is available. Also you need a hard science…AP Chem or AP Physics (or dual enrollment version).
@bopper As I stated in the post, I already took AP Chem and AP Physics…As well as AP Calc BC. I am taking AP Statistics, and there are no further calculus or physics courses for me to take.
This is not a future stem major’s schedule and it’s loaded with AP lites. Since you have dual enrollment options, the expectation would be you take calculus 2+3 and calculus based general physics 1+2 as dual enrollment, plus if you wish Environmental science and Spanish (note that depending on the college where you’re doing dual enrollment, Spanish 4 would expect either High School Spanish 4 or AP Spanish language as a pre-req. If you took high school Spaniah 3 you should take college Spanish 3, which counts as high school Spanish 4 as a minimum - college Spanish 1 covers high school Spaniah 1+2.)
Add AP English Literature and one more (AP Psych?) and your schedule is full but also considered most rigorous and relevant for a STEM major.
I agree with prior posters that you need to take a rigorous math class senior year. I do not consider a piece to distichs to be a rigorous math class. If your school does not offer one, then use the dual enrollment to take it. Why are you not taking AP environmental science or Spanish at your school? Also, I would not take the sociology class.
@MYOS1634@Testingearly As I stated, I already took AP Calc BC, and there is no higher math or any physics at the local community college. There is no higher spanish available at my school either. You guys obviously failed to read into my post because I stated I was taking AP Psych. I stated my situation and simply asked whether this seemed like the most rigourous courses available, since I have already taken EVERY STEM related AP offered to me.
