Is this considered an extra curricular?

I make and sell duct tape items, mostly flower pens, but sometimes purses and wallets as well. It takes up a decent amount of my time as my classmates and my mother's coworkers are frequently requesting items. I've also taught many classmates and teachers how to make basic duct tape items. Since it isn't an organized activity, is it still an extra curricular?

Probably not but that is so interesting. I would highly recommend writing an essay about it. Especially in one of your personal statements. It’s very unique, and likely to give your ad officer a chuckle. If you have a stellar app, a well written essay about this could put your app over the top. But no, probably not an EC unless you decide to form a club. (in which you could be president which also looks very impressive)

My EC’s are very lacking, haha. I’m working on getting a club approved by the school board, and my algebra 2 teacher said he would advise it if I can get it all planned out myself, but in all honesty I’m not sure what we’d do at meetings. I mean, I can make a flower in 15 minutes easily, but to explain it to someone who’s never worked with tape can take well over the “club period” my school has. Maybe I could teach people and we could sell the flowers for charity? I mean, I make a fairly hefty profit on them, and I’d feel much better giving the money to charity than keeping it.

I don’t see why you don’t view this as having started a business. Do you sell only to your friends and mother’s co-workers? Have you ever tried get a local store to carry them? Maybe you can sell them at holiday bazaars or at street fairs. I don’t think ECs have to fit into some pre-existing structure, such as school clubs; I think they can be something to which you consistently devote a significant amount of time and energy.

Well, there’s no small stores or anything here, it’s just wal-marts and home depots and such. I sell to friends as well as friends of friends and classmates of friends, basically however word gets to me that someone wants one. Maybe I can get a stand at the local flea market? I’m not sure, they’re very expensive.

you could make your own website to sell them  and force your classmates to buy them online
