I took the May 2013 SAT. I'm an 8th grader and I took the test cold. My scores were:

640M
600CR
640W

Looking at the official results thread, I can see that my scores are kind of bad, so my question is can I get to around 2200+ by junior year if I study? Also, is my current score considered bad for my grade (8th)?

Thanks.

^^^

To which question?

" so my question is can I get to around 2200+ by junior year if I study?"
of course

“is my current score considered bad for my grade (8th)?”
-_- Stop making me feel bad about maself dude/dudette… :P

1880 for 8th grader is fantastic, you should be proud.

The following is my opinion:
+1500 OK
+1750 Good
+2000 Very Good
+2150 Excellent

Keep in mind that this is for Juniors/Seniors not 8th graders. Your score is excellent for your age. No need to worry.

Thanks 2200andbeyondXD and Rookie56. At this point though, should I actually start studying hard for the SAT or should I put that off until at least freshman-soph year?

Do what u may… u still have time… just practice as often as possible and learn all the “strategies” to solve the SAT questions.
they’re quite different than the school’s stuff

@Sami, agreed 100%
except that’s for highschoolers not a kid (ehem u know what i mean applier… no offense… :P)

They’re very good for an 8th Grader, and you’re sure to improve by the time you take it in the Junior/Senior years. (Unless you’re me and get the exact same score 4 years down the road)

as a matter of fact, i feel very stupid barely reaching “excellence” after three trials in highscool when u reached very good u eighth grader (I’m envy free :P… just a lil coveting :PPP) … lol

Are u sure u were practicing in those 4 years @Harr?!

I have been practising. I got 2150 in 7th Grade, and I got 2150 on the May 2013 SAT. I totally bombed the writing section though, 640. I’m not even sure why at this point, I can’t see my essay score atm. It’s a huge disappointment for me, not so much the score, but the fact that I’ve been doing practice exams (from the Blue Book and elsewhere) and been consistently getting higher than 2300.

so u got the same score on 2 tests… -_-

DUDE… FOUR YEARS AND SAD STORY… u made it sound like u took the SAT 24 times and failed or sth!

So u repeated a score (an EXCELLENT SCORE) after 4 years, with all that prac, just take it one more time, U’ll ace it if God may.
Plus maybe u were practicing the wrong way (which I seriously doubt with a 2150 :P) but again just read through threads here f those who improved and see what you may be missing…

Really isn’t THAT of a big deal (at ALL) LOL :P

I actually found it quite funny (not quite sure anyone else will though, lol), especially since I found the May 2013 exam really easy.

It’s the easy ones you should take care of man…

jan was easy but the curve was UNBELIEVABLE… so yeah

Thanks Harrovian and Sami27.

I got an 1610 in 8th grade, and I just got a 2240 in march, as a junior, so you can definitely get up to 2200+ by junior year

I got probably around 1530 when I took the sats in 7th grade. Just took them as a junior and got a 2190. 660 point difference. You have nothing to worry about. You can’t even go up 660 points with your score. Congrats!

Your scores are definitely great for an 8th grader. Personally, I have found the critical reading section to be the hardest. So I would suggest that you practice for the critical reading by engaging in classic reads such as Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, etc. and by also reading news articles, Times magazines, and other scholarly journals daily. This will not only help your reading comprehension, but will also provide you with some good examples/topics for your essay in the Writing section.

If you study hard enough, you can get ANY mark.
