Hey guys. I was just wondering if my GPA/situation is good enough to get into the following schools (Will have all prereqs + IGETC done by spring prior, will be missing 1 Comsci class, and 2 math classes for UCI's BIM):

UCI: Business Information Management or Econ
UCD: Managerial Econ or Econ
UCSD: Econ
UCSB: Econ and Accounting or Econ
UCLA: Linguistics and Comp Sci or Econ or Business econ
UCB: Econ.

My GPA by the end of the Fall 2013 will stand at about a 3.3/3.4 or so GPA. But here's my situation: I attended a four year for 1 semester before attending Spring 2013, Summer 2013, and Fall 2013 at a CCC.

Four Year's 1 Fall Semester: 2.8 for 15 units
CCC Spring 2013: 3.2/3.3 for 13 units
Summer 2013: 4.0 for 10 units
Fall 2013: 3.8-4.0 for 19 units

So if they only look at the stats with the four year with CCC, my GPA stands at a 3.3/3.4, but looking at just the CCC grades, I would have a 3.6/3.7 GPA.

As for ECs, I have a good amount of work experience including internship with Realtor, internship with the public works department of a city, started my own online business that made 40k, eBay power seller. Some generic ECs like piano and martial arts/hs teams. Scholarship for a business camp etcetc.

One of the essays will talk about how my business mentor from my 4 year inspired me to pursue my dream of attending a UC and the other one will pertain to the business I started.

What would be my chance at each school/department? Can anyone share their stats and which schools they got into for 2013 admissions?

Correction. Should be around a high 3.3 to a 3.5 or so.

UCI: BIM REACH (15%)
UCI: ECON MATCH/ IN with TAG
UCD: TAG FOR 100%
UCSD: TAG FOR 100% ( this year is the last year) or 50% chance in
UCSB: TAG FOR 100%
UCLA: Linguistics 60% COMPUTER science (3%) Unlikely , BIZECON (8%) All reach
UCB: Reach (8%)

Goodluck try your best to keep your GPA up…

^ Why only 15% at the BIM program? I mean… its not in the business school and Iheard its no where as selective.

BUMP! Interested in more opinions!

Linguistics and Computer Science is one major, not two separate ones.

That said, transfer numbers for this major are really weird. For example, for the latest stats available, 17 people applied, 8 were admitted with an average GPA of 3.73, 0 people enrolled. Then for the year before that, 5 people applied, 1 got admitted and enrolled with a GPA of 3.28. Then for the year before that, 3 people applied, 2 were admitted with a an average GPA of 3.88 and only one enrolled.

So my totally arbitrary guess based on just this is that 2013 will be a low GPA year and 2014 will be a high GPA year so 3.3 isn’t going to cut it.

I’m sorry.

But seriously, I don’t know why you’re already assuming you’ll be getting a 3.8-4.0 GPA in Summer and Fall when you got a 3.2-3.3 in Spring.

How about for the other majors and schools?

In my honest opinion, I think you will get in everywhere except UCLA and Berkeley. You might have a shot at Ling and CS at UCLA, but as someone else mentioned, it’s pretty random. Are you sure you will finish the prereqs for that major? There are surprisingly a lot:
one course in introduction to linguistics
two years of one foreign language
one year of calculus with analytic geometry
one symbolic logic course
four computer programming courses
strongly recommended: once course in discrete structures

So yeah, in at everywhere but LA and B, you have my opinion.

BUMP! I’m not sure how I feel about the Linguistics/COMPSCII program. Anyone know what you learn anyways?

@strong

Why would you apply as ling/cs major if you don’t even know what it is about? You cannot change your major to econ at UCLA.
