Is this schedule too much?

I’m a freshman right now and we’re making our choices for classes in sophomore year, and I was wondering if this schedule will be too much to handle.
AP bio (required)
Engineering applications
Gifted Language arts
WHAP
Gifted pre-cal
Spanish 3

And I’m trying to decide between band or AP stat. I’ve heard that stat is pretty easy, but I’m worried that 3 APs will be too much in sophomore year.

It’s hard to say. How difficult are your current classes and what grades are you getting? AP’s, like AP Bio can be a lot of work. Teachers can make a difference. Ask around to see who is teaching the AP’s you are looking at. Also look at how much time you will have to study along with any EC’s, a sport, etc. You want to aim for a good GPA with strong classes which you look to have. The difference between band or AP Stat IMO is for you to decide depending on how much you like playing an instrument. Go with what interests you more, keeping in mind colleges like to see focused EC’s so if you like band, try to stick with it more than next year. Good luck!

Stats and band are similar in rigor. Now you need to consider the question of which aligns more with your interests.

Whether 3 APs is too much depends on your schedule from this past year, and how well you did. For some students, it would be- for others, 3 APs is completely manageable.
As for the choice between band and stat, it is primarily up to what will interest you more.

In terms of college admissions, band and AP stats are similar rigor, with a nod to band as it demonstrates musical ability and time commitment.

GSMST?

@fjghg123 What do you want to study in college? Which schools are you thinking about? Your plans may change later, but these questions should help you shape up your schedule. Are you going to have a full year art credit completed in your freshman year? Are you in a band right now? There is a full year art requirement for all U of California schools, for example. Taking an AP class is always a good idea, its often tought by same teachers as regular or gifted class, and depending on school, its often the same amount of work and effort, well, plus an exam… What instrument do you play in band? Do you see yourself doing it in college? Do you have a leadrship position there? Can you live without music? If your school is really heavy on STEM, it could be a good idea to balance it out.

Take Band. You don’t need to be taking AP stats sophomore year. Band will be fun and you will meet people.
AP Bio will be challenging sophomore year.
