So I've always been interested in healthcare but when it comes down to it my skills aren't great for nursing nor being a doctor (mainly because it's too much pressure and my study skills don't allow for a perfect GPA). But I still like healthcare. I'm beginning to look into hospital administration and the "business side of healthcare" might be nice but I want some opinions on what to do.

At my school there is a major called Public Health. It talks more about the policies of healthcare and epidemiology, along with some economics of the business itself. So it's relevant. However, the major is pretty strict on class requirements and it would probably be downright impossible to double major in something with no overlap in classes, otherwise I would pair that with a Business degree. But would the Business degree be better for this particular field?

Thank you guys in advance, by the way!

Business would keep your options open but still allow you to later take an Masters in Public health later. You might just find that you go in at a clerical level to begin with but that’s common in very many jobs now. Maybe get some work experience in a hospital or health care setting if you haven’t already. Go ahead with PH if you are happy there or take business if you’re conflicted.

I understand the pressure element- do try and work on ways to reduce it regardless or it’ll cause problems in life at times other than just at college.

Aside from health admin, have you looked into any of the professions allied to medicine- physio, OT, audiology, speech therapy etc? These tend to be no more stressful during the day than your average job and tend to be more 9-5 depending on setting. The Physio tends to require higher grades but its great if you enjoy anatomy and physiology. OT is something I didn’t know about at your age but its really interesting if you like interacting with people one on one to help solve their problems. It’s a job for practical thinkers who like people.

I might like OT, but I haven’t looked into it too much. I like problem-solving, but I’m not sure if I would fit in there better or not. I’ll keep an open mind. The pressure issue is mainly when I am time-limited since I tend to work a little slowly but it’s something I am indeed working on.

I’m not sure if I will be happy in the PH major because I’m technically not in it yet nor have I taken the classes. The program sounds very interesting though. I will have a more clear mind about it on Friday but I know that some advisors like try to fluff things up to sound better…
