Is this true about Dickson

I heard from someone that stayed there for a reunion that it's disgusting, moldy, dark etc. Is this true?

Anyone know much about it? Is it really crappy?

If you "search this thread" on CC for dickson, most people say it's the best dorm on campus for singles and that it's overall a great dorm.

I lived in Court, and I was often jealous of Dickson.

why is it the best for singles? how is it for triples

Depends on what you want. If you prefer newer/nicer and don't mind smaller/quieter, then you're going to prefer CKB/Mews over Dickson, which is older and not as nice. Dickson is very social however, and I spent a lot of time there with my friends even though I didn't live there. Conditions seem to vary within the building... some parts were ok, others were perfectly fine.

If you go to the facebook groups for Dickson - you can see the floor plan. It looks like there is one larger room (triple?) for about 20 singles? Newer/nicer would be good - but it sounds like Dickson is not a bad deal. Also if you go to the Cornell 2012 class website there is a section for hallmates and housing and you can see who will be on your floor.

I was in Dickson and met some of my closest friends there. Although the facilities are the nicest (it's not unlivable either), it makes up for it by being very, very social.

I lived there for the year, and it's not moldy, dark or disgusting. Well, save for the late night hours on party nights. It's ain't brand new, but it's generally clean, well lit, and you can't beat a dorm made up of mostly singles rooms.

Alright thanks everyone. I was a little worried but I feel much better now haha.

definitely not bad/old in any way, i lived there...as for west campus dorms besides the ever growing new ones, they are a little more towards the moldy/bad/old side but even then not bad at all worth complaining, and i mean now theyre disappearing for the new ones...and the construction is almost if not done so quiet is coming back

i didnt think dickson was gross. it was old but that was it. and the cleaning staff was fantastic...my bathroom was always spotless.

how many restrooms are on each side? 1 male and 1 female?

Yeah, there were 4 showers in mine and 4 stalls, I think. They were never all being used at the same time.

Dickson isn't gross, but my room was tiny, which is still a fine trade-off for having a single.

It is useful to know about dickson that there are no overhead lights, all you get is a desk lamp. So be sure to either bring a lamp or be prepared to buy one.

yeah it was funny watching all the lamps getting sold like crazy to parents at target first move in days...all part of the fun

Dickson's ballin yo. I lived in Risley last year and I'm going to keep living there (for now) and it was OK, but a little too much of a "bubble". Dickson, the times that I went, was extremely social and the people there were all mad chill. The rooms were smaller than the ones in Risley but they have a lot more singles so that's always nice. And the common bathrooms... you get used to those in a week. Hell, Risley had co-ed common bathrooms and people adapt pretty quickly to those so... yea.

Congrats on Dickson! Oh, you'll probably go Greek if you live there. Just a heads up haha.

by adapting quickly to coed bathrooms, you mean like when the women won't go in cuz of the guys, or they wont do certain thigns, or will go in at certain times..

and everytime ive seen coed bathrooms arise, they open another women only one...

you should like dickson just fine...the laundry room is probably the nicest on north campus...

if you dont like your dorm no matter where it is...you will always have plenty of homework/reading to do so you could end up staying on campus all day and just coming back to bed...

Yea, there is a female only bathroom on the first floor (virgin's hall, all girls) and a all guys one too (monk's) but all the other 10 of them are co-ed. i mean you get used to them quickly in that no one cares what they see/show after a while. no one's gonna be naked but people walk around in their underwear a lot. i like to at least :p
