I just finished my freshmen year at A&M and I might/might not take summer school at San Jac (in Houston). But I heard that you're only allowed to take summer school elsewhere your freshmen year, and after that you have to take summer school at A&M. Is this true? So if I don't do summer school this year, will I be able to take summer school at San Jac next year or will I have to take it at A&M?

That’s interesting, I have never hear of that. When I went to talk to my advisors if I needed to do anything special to take my summer courses they didn’t bring up anything about that, I was a freshman (sophomore now) but they had no way of knowing that.

not true.
there are requirements about having enough courses taken at A&M - but there should be no issues with a summer class here and there -

Nope not true. I took history and English course at a cc during summer after my sophomore year and they transferred

Nope, not true I take summer school away from a&m every summer and christmas break

One possible limitation is that Community Colleges (offering 2 year degrees) wont offer much beyond freshman and some sophomore courses. Would be a good venue for taking core classes. You can check out Transfer Course Equivalency at <a href=“Howdy Security Block”>Howdy Security Block;

There is a form that your advisor has to sign before you register for your summer class.

I’m not so sure about that desilu.
My daughter registered for Speech at Blinn for a May minimester, took the class, then transferred the 3 hr back to A&M without any advisor signing or talking to anyone. She knew she needed the Speech class and just decided to take it during a May minimester to get it done. She already had 78 credit hours at A&M, some dual credit hours from high school and some AP credit hours.
The 3hr Comm 203 class just showed up on her transcript. No problems.

I never had to get a form signed to sign up for summer courses.

The form might be required by the college you are going to over the summer. My daughter needed a form signed by her advisor making sure the classes she is taking will transfer back to TAMU.

Also, one more question: how easy are the courses at the community college? I was talking to a friend who was taking Physics at San Jac too, and he said that it was a joke. I’m gonna be taking CHEM 102/112 and I’m kind of scared that I might do bad.

you need to take that in consideration. If you are not going to need any more Chem - then it would be ok to take at a CC.

I would only take courses at a CC that you are not going to need in another course at A&M. Basics - Speech, history, etc

quick question - credit from other institutions don’t affect your TAMU GPR/A, right? only the amount of total hours?

They do not affect your gpr, but if you are going into engineering they will use the grade given in a common body of knowledge course to calculate your CBK gpr even if you take it at CC. I do not know if this applies to you or not, but otherwise the answer is no it does not transfer then grade to your gpr.
