Some girl from my school got in last year with a 3.2... She had the whole NYU thing going on for her though. Good writer, into music, artsy.

There are different things going for certain individuals. The application does give you a chance to tell them any special circumstances, maybe the admissions officer found something he/she really liked in that person.

They probably have a way of whittling it all down with numbers I bet, but they do look at the whole picture =]

Well, College Board also says that 37% of applicants were admitted to NYU. That's a high margin, especially for this year.

Actually, the admissions rate has dropped to 24% this year . . .

Admission rate drops to 24%, lowest in years - University

mind you, some of us attend prestigious private schools with lots of APs and honors which does bring us down a bit gpa wise, but we are often of better academic quality

and I think some of the programs the portfolio is often just as if not more so important than high school gpa to a certain extent

and I don't feel like commas today... deal with it

Remember, the Tisch kids (applying to one if not the finest performing school in the country) get in primarily on their auditions/portfolios although all seem to have to be very decent students.

Like any school, URM's (aka under-represented monorities) are heavily recuited to this $52,000 a year school and they usually take up a big hunk of the lower 25% stats (as do recruited athlethes but that's not a factor here)

Are you looking at 2008/2009 stats? Also a 3.2 from a student taking all high honors and AP classses can be a 3.9 weighted...rigor of curriculum is supposed to be admissions factor numero UNO.

And then there's those HEOP kids...
