Is UCSC still withinreach?

Grade :10
Gener: M

Alright, my dream college is definitely UCSC, but seems out of reach, especially with my slacking last semester. The courses I am taking this year include Algebra 1 (Taking geometry over the summer), Biology, Modern World, Honors English, Spanish 2. My 10-12 gpa w/o PE (A-G courses) is 2.6, 2.8 unweighted. This semester I will probably end up with a 3.6,3.8 unweighted. I will be taking Chemistry, Algebra 2, Honors Creative Writing ROP, Ap English lang and comp, and Ap US history. Over the summer I will be taking geometry, community service and a internship at my local attorney’s office. Is there a chance of UCSC, Chico, Humboldt or Riverside? Please help me!

For the UC’s and CSU’s, they use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation. Here is a link for the UC GPA calculator:

Post UW UC GPA, Capped Weighted UC GPA and Fully Weighted UC GPA.

As in-state applicant, for the UC schools you need a minimum capped weighted GPA of 3.0 to apply but the minimum GPA may not be competitive enough to get you into any of the UC’s.

Depending upon your Capped Weighted UC GPA, UCSC and UCR could be possible.

For the Cal States, they use the Capped weighted UC GPA and your test scores to determine an Eligibility index.
UC Capped Weighted GPA= CSU GPA

(UC capped weighted GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW) or (UC capped weighted GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10)

Until you have 10-11th grades and test scores, it is difficult to determine how competitive you will be for these schools.

Come back and post when you have all your stats and keep working hard.

One bad semester isn’t going to ruin everything. Chico and Humboldt are absolutely in play, and UCR and UCSC are still possible. You may prefer the CSU semester system over the fast paced UC quarter system anyway. Do your test prep and stay motivated!

without test scores and CSU/UC GPA - my guess is your capped CSUGPA is around 3.2, with a 1200ish SAT, Chico and Humboldt are likely to take you. UCSC and UCR, probably not. Don’t know what you want to study but, but SF, Sonoma and most programs at SJSU and CP Pomona are probably in reach.
