I remember when I visited campus in April, I saw tons of lesbian couples. EVERYWHERE. No gay men caught my mind. It was pretty cool though! Hahahaha. “Most” straight guys will never act on their homophobia? Are there some that… will? Any experiences?

FYI just because they are holding hands doesn’t mean they are a lesbian couple. Did you see them kissing or something? How could I be able tell a girl is a lesbian? It is kind of easy to tell if a guy is if he talks all fabulous-like but a girl?

When you see girls kissing out in public, regardless of whether they’re lesbian or not, the fact that no one openly had a problem with it suggests that no one was phased by it.

Troy speak for yourself. I don’t want to see that type of behavior.

While walking around campus, I wouldn’t care to see guys kissing guys or girls kissing girls. In fact, it would make college more interesting and enriching if I were to see such on the regular.

Agree with Coolaid317. Weirdly, enough, as a straight girl, I’d rather see same sex kissing rather than opposite sex kissing - maybe just because I’m tired of seeing a billion straight couples gettin’ sloppy all the time. Luckily (for the rest of the world), my preferences don’t dictate what the general public do, and so all of you PDA-ing couples can keep sticking your tongues down each other’s throats wherever you please (regardless of gender).

I don’t think it’s gay-friendly. I’ve been here for 4 yrs now, and I think most ppl will avoid using offensive terms, but I witnessed a few cases where people around here still do not feel comfortable seeing lgbt couples walking hand in hand. Even my straight friends laughed and joked about that secretly… So I say, if you are not out yes, and still act straight in public at ucsd, you’ll fine. If you’ll be who u r ( i meant ur out of the closet)and do all kind of stuff in public like holding hand, kissing,…Most people wont say a lot of offensive things, but You can see through their looks that they are not totally pro-gay… so good luck, By the way, if u r ee major and want to get practical experience or jobs and not really want to go grad school, then don’t come here cuz you’ll suffer a great deal without learning much of what you need to in order to find a job. MOst ee professors suck…you r on ur own if you go here. good luck

This is an excellent question and I have wondered too… from what I’ve heard and my experiences, UC campuses tend to be more liberal but my impression is that the San Diego area is more conservative albeit not too conservative.

I am liberal (not far left) in one of the most conservative counties in CA…not very friendly towards LGBTs but my CC is quite liberal from my experience.
