Your GPA and Rank are good but a 2050 (expected) is a little low for UVA. If you can bump that up to a 2200 (expected) then I would say it would be a match. As of now it’s a low reach, in my opinion.

i’d say it’s a high match/low reach. you definitely have a good shot, but it’s very hard for out-of-state-ers. you will most likely get in though

theRADtomato47 with a 32 ACT you are on the 75th percentile of first year students at UVA so would be a definite match/low match, but because you are out of state UVA is more like a math/high match. I say that you will get in to UVA.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I plan to submit only my ACT to UVA. Also, I’ve heard UVA OOS is as competitive as the ivy’s because its acceptance rate is <20%. What do you guys think?

Yah im gonna work on my common app essay to make it really good. But, the UVA supplement essays are hard. Hopefully, average essays here dont derail my hopes. Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I think you can get your SAT above 2050 judging by your subject tests, and if you do that it should be a match. As for the essays, I wouldn’t give up on the supplemental ones… the first one is really broad so you can make a lot of it (at least for the college of arts and sciences) and I think there are a lot of ways to hit the “dumbest generation” one out of the park.

^Completely false. UVA is one of the harder state schools to get in to if you are out of state, but by no means does it come close to being a “top 10 hardest university”. The OP’s numbers are well within range of UVA.

Repeating what I say is not going to cover up your ineptitude in judging college admissions. Being in the Top 6% of your class and having a 32 ACT is more than enough for UVA. If you don’t believe me, you can always consult the CollegeBoard statistics, the numbers on MyChances, or even look into the UVA freshmen profiles. Though the OP’s extracurriculars are far from stupendous, they don’t need to be anything more than decent for UVA.

I took an SAT practice test today on my own today and got a 2140 official. If I don’t get above a 2100 on the october SAT, then i probably will just submit my ACT. Also, how much will retaking math II SAT subject test and getting a 750+ boost my admissions chances?

If you submit the act…you should be fine…but try getting a 2100 or higher on the sat and really try on the essays…essays can sometimes be a deciding factor!

I wouldn’t retake the math 2 SAT II unless it really won’t be a detriment to your other work. A 750 isn’t that different from a 710, unless you think you can get an 800 it probably isn’t worth it.

Keep in mind UVa uses a holistic admissions policy. Essays, LORs, & ECs are important. If you are applying to the e-school or architecture I might consider another go at the Math 2 subject test. It’s going to be competitive. While your ACT of 32 is good, the break down of subjects is more important. Make sure the numbers are consistent (ie you don’t have a random 29 in the mix). UVa is rarely a easy call oos, even if the numbers line up. There’s too many other factors considered. That said, there’s nothing that screams you are not a very viable candidate. Put that extra effort into your essays.
Best of luck!!
