Is Villanova actually worth the high tuition? Especially for someone going into the sciences - not business. Also, does anyone know anything about the merit scholarships? I saw some on the website but other then presidential they were all for low income or minority students.

I’m a biology major at Villanova right now, and I absolutely love it. I definitely could’ve gone to a much cheaper school for the same degree, but I can’t imagine being anywhere else. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) has an amazing but difficult curriculum. In terms of merit scholarships, there are none, except for those students who come from low income or minority families. I appealed and got a ton more financial acid, so if worse comes to worst, keep appealing.
Are you a “full pay” student or will you be eligible for financial aid?
Villanova is a fine school But the question of if any “school worth the money” comes down to what is affordable for a particular family. I suggest you run the net price calculator and see if the finances appear to work for your family at Villanova (and any other college you consider applying to).
We are not a full pay family, but we still pay a lot!! Is it worth it, my child LOVES it at Villanova. To us yes, but we do complain every time we get the bill. LOL Great education, great kids, fun school ( but not out of hand)…these things were important to my child. She was interested in a few other schools, but the fit was not right and my husband was all for a state school, but when he went with her to visit… he was not impressed. For our family it is worth every penny, for your family it may not be.
Thanks for the input. I would be “full pay” and it’s affordable for my family. I was just looking more for if other people enjoyed their experience and viewed it as worth it, which it seems like they do.
Just looking for closely at Villanova for D21 and, wow, it checks a lot of boxes. Anyone know how a non-Catholic student would fit in? She’s agnostic. Would never judge anyone’s religion but I think the fit for her isn’t as good if everyone goes to church each week or she will feel left out if she hasn’t gone to Catholic high school. We are looking at a few other Catholic or Jesuit colleges as well and trying to gauge exactly how religious each feels.
My daughter is also non-religious, and a junior at Villanova with a double major - political science/economics and a french minor. She absolutely loves Villanova, and finds the required theology classes interesting and challenging.
Last cycle my daughter was accepted there were no merit scholarship (She is at UMD-CP) and I do not believe that Villanova has “merit scholarships”. If you are full pay, you are quite literally full pay at Nova. Business school I would say is worth a bit of debt…again…what does that mean to your family. However, nursing, engineering etc–No, I would not go into big debt to go to Villanova because there are so many good schools with excellent programs out there. I am also a Villlanova Nursing Alum. Its a great school and no you do not need to be Catholic or religious to feel a part. I never stepped foot in the chapel except for the tour or for my friends weddings : )
If it requires you to take out more than $30,000 in student loan debt, then no, it’s not worth it. You could get a bachelors degree with identical accreditation for a fraction of the cost at your in-state university.
@mom517 My D applied for class of 21 and did receive merit with her acceptance and was selected to compete for the presidential. Have they gotten rid of all merit?
