I'm planning on transferring to UCSB next year and was wondering what the cost of living is for a studio apartment in or near Isla Vista. I came across some site and found listings for some studio apartments as low as about 500. are there really some apartments at this price? i thought it would be much more

$500 is reasonable if you share a room with another person but prepare to pay $500~$800.

Having a studio apartment to yourself costs around 850-1100 dollars per month. Living for 500 per month would be possible if you have a roommate or two.

850 is reasonable but how hard is it to find studios? do listings go very quick?. Forgot to mention i will be living by myself

Ads for student rental housing in IV have a very unusual system. The prices we have seen are PER BED. One of the newer and nicer places had a banner saying something along the lines of ‘Studios $700’ Turns out that is $700 per bed. So it’s a minimum of 2 beds per studio and if you take 3 or more there is a slight reduction in the per bed price. So, when shopping in the IV area be sure to have a clear understanding of their pricing method.

i have been looking around and found a complex that rents out studios for around 960. is that the cheapest I will find and has anyone lived or know anyone who lives in a studio for less than this?

Here’s a housing link from Santa Barbara City College which gives you an idea of prices.
