I'm currently a student at a community college looking to transfer to one of these schools. I'll be completing my associate's in about a year, and was wondering if anyone had any insight to offer regarding these universities. I'm an Illinois resident, and live close enough to Illinois State to where I could commute and avoid the cost of room and board. While living at home for all of undergrad is not my first choice, it is something to consider with all of the future expenses. However, I would have to live on campus if I chose to attend any of the other three schools. Truman State would add up to about the same cost as ISU, taking into account the automatic scholarships that would assist in covering the OOS tuition, as well as the necessary room and board. UIUC and UMN are of about equal cost, twice as much as the former two options. However, as an aspiring English and Economics double major, I have been told that UIUC and UMN are considerably well-ranked for these two programs, especially compared to ISU and Truman. I was hoping someone could help me decide on which of these schools would be the most beneficial in my situation. Also, UMN is 7 hours away, while UIUC is only one hour away, and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on moving that far away from home. Thanks!

uiuc for sure

If you can get two years of the residential college experience with cheap room and board, I’d say go Truman State over ISU. That will be a nice experience.

Truman is ranked high on USNWR’s regional list, ISU is ranked low on the national list, so I’d say it’s a wash academically - and Truman might be stronger in English.

If you get in and can work out the finances, UIUC and UMN are stronger schools overall and are going to have better employer recruiting on campus. UIUC is probably a little stronger and if you’re staying in IL after college will help you a bit more.
