Ithaca College v. University of Vermont?

These are two of my top choices right now, they seem pretty similar in terms of cost, admissions, average sat scores, etc. Ithaca is smaller but I havent decided if I think thats a good thing yet.

I am from NY (around Albany) and want to study something along the lines of history/sociology/political science/education with an sat of 1910 (660-math, 640-reading, 610-writing) and a 3.8 gpa.

Does anyone have any information that would make one of these any better than the other, because I'm having trouble giving an upper hand to one or the other in my personal rankings

Ithaca College is more known for its communications programs and less so for the fields you listed, although they are still pretty strong in those areas. What are you looking for in a school?

these schools strike me as fairly different?

Ithaca- smaller, private
Vermont- larger, public

I think that Ithaca is known most for communications and theater, may have an artsy vibe. UVM is a large school so should offer many majors, said to have more of a hippie vibe.

both of thes schools strike me as expensive and I saw in another thread that cost was a concern for you? why have you focused in on these two schools particularly.?

pamom: cost is an issue but these are my top schools that are expensive, yet good schools, that I also know I can get quite a bit of financial aid from, most of the other schools I’m applying to are suny schools, in other words, <15,000 a year - what I could completely afford (with heavy financial aid still). the location of these schools, the reviews I have read about the vibe at both seem pretty similar, they both are good academicaly in general though not so elite that I would be the stupidest/poorest person there, although I havent looked too deeply into what schools offer the best programs in what I think I will major in, partly because I’m not entirely sure. I guess basically I would like to know is which would give more financial aid, and be stronger in those areas I mentioned?

I think (?) that state schools in general don’t offer a lot of financial aid. Also- while I’m not an expert, I think that financial aid usually comes in the form of loans- so that means you’d have to load up on debt if you qualify for it. If your stats are in the top 25% of students for Ithaca College, maybe you could get some merit aid there?

UVM lists its cost of attendance as over $47,000 per year.
the sticker price for Ithaca is similar. [Tuition and Fees - Student Financial ServicesFinancial Aid and Billing - Ithaca College](<a href=“Tuition & Financial Aid | Ithaca College”>Tuition & Financial Aid | Ithaca College)

are these numbers in any way doable for you? it seems like NY state schools are your best option.

maybe I’m severly underestimating how much college costs and probably how much financial aid I can get. I cant afford 47k or even half that, I think I’m maybe banking a little too much on getting financial aid.
