D got a packet today inviting her to apply for the Honors Program. She has to submit a writing sample, write a short response (250-500 words) about her intellectual interests, and get a teacher rec...all must be postmarked by March 1 - that's 6 days from now! The letter was dated January 28. Did anyone else get this, and if so, did you receive it closer to the time that the letter was dated? I can't believe they're giving her SUCH a short time to complete such an important app!

My S got the same package a couple of days ago. I called the directer of the Honors Program with the same concerns you voiced; had to leave a message. The director called back to say they realize the letter went out late and the date is flexible; I did not speak to him, he left a message on our machine. I did not call back because my S will probably not be going to Ithaca. He got more merit money elsewhere. You should call for more info. You would think they could have revised the date before sending the letter, considering everyone probably had the same reaction.

Thanks LongeyeMom. I just did call the director and we had a very nice chat. He told me the same thing about the date being flexible. I was most concerned about the letter of rec, but my fears have been allayed.
D is very interested in Ithaca, since she was nominated as a Park Scholar. Still waiting to hear about that...

I received my packet yesterday! They were quite behind with it. I received an email from the director stating that the postmark date is now March 16. :)

Yeah, I didn't give the packet a second look...so I guess I've decided against going to Ithaca.
