Got the letter

and unfortunately my D did not make finalist. Ithaca is now off her list as she likes other schools much better.
Good luck to everyone!

I am really sorry. I still have not received my letter, but it does not look good for me as I believe your daughter had higher stats than i do. Sorry. Is she applying to randolph macon, i thoght i rember you writing that. if so, i have a friend there, who is a brilliant girl a nd she loves it there, and says there are so many great things there. so just to let you know that. where is your D. considering going now. i will let you know when i got mey letter. Thanks for your encouragement.

Ndd..I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
No, my daughter is not the one that applied to Randolph Macon.
As of right now, she is in at Penn State & got 1/2 tuition scholarship from U of Miami. She is waiting on American U, Syracuse, NYU, Columbia and Northwestern.
I beleive in the end it will be between Penn State, Miami & American, she really loved those schools.
Don't think she will get into NYU or Columbia, she goes to a specialized HS in NYC and just about her whole class applies to those schools.
Good luck to you, let me know when you hear.

Just wanted to let you know that I still have not heard from the Park Program. I live overseas, but mail usually takes only a week to reach me. I will email them tomorrow (my MOnday) if it does not come in the Monday mail. I can not imagine being a finalist this late in the game, but i still have not gotten any kind of letter. My ONLY hope is that sometimes larger, thicker letters take a few days longer; I assume the "regret" letter was a thin envelope. My fingers hurt, they have been crossed for so long, waiting.
Has your D. decided where she will go--did you decline from Ithaca already?

Yes, it was a very thin envelope.
My daughter was accepted yesterday to American U Honors, so that is high on her list. She hasnt decided for sure, still waiting for 4 schools.
Ans no, she hasnt declined yet.

Hi, finally got my letter and I, too, did not make it, well, i feel i am in good company cause your daughter sounds like a sterling student, with many great college acceptances--oh well--I will wait and see what the entire financial aid packet is from Ithaca before i absolutely cross it off my list. I was hoping to go to Ithaca, but I have got better scholarship offers from other schools, so I will have to wait and see. Good luck with your D. decision as well.

Just a tip - if you got better aid from other schools, Ithaca will take another look at your package...I have friends who had Ithaca come back and end up offerring them enough money to match other schools. Obviously, this is just one case, but you never know!

ICisgorges, thanks for your reply. It came at the same time that the admissions counselor in the admissions office who wrote and said they are not offering me any merit aid. I got into Cinema and Photography and she said the competition was fierce and they would not reconsider their decsion. I think I am pretty competitive as my gpa is 3.8 my SAT's are 2030 and I have many many EC and writing awards; in reality I got many many other merit scholarships from other equally as good schools like FSU and Hampshire and Rollins and a full 4 year free ride at Green Mountain. BUT i really want to go to Ithaca--do you think it pays to pursue this with the head of the dept of C and P or the dean in the Park School? Any suggestion will help. Thanks for your reply.

Well, I'm not an expert on all of that. But I think you should talk to the people in the office of financial aid and see what they can do for you. I believe that is where my friends who got their awards appealed went.

Thank you, I will do just that and let you know. I received a full 4 year scholarship at a small LAC called Green Mountain College in Vermont. I won a Make a Difference Scholarship for work I have done with indigent children in Vietnam and Thailand (i live overseas) this scholarship is 120,000. This is a great opportunity, but GMC does not offer much in communications; it is an environmental liberal arts school. But maybe I can use this as some leverage.
Again, thanks for your insights and i will let you know how it turns out.
