And not to mention Tom fricken Brady. If he thinks Hoke is the right guy I’m all in. Just watch the presser. mgoblue.com.

No one can predict our coaches record. I just make posts that state my opinion and my reasons for those opinions. I only “argue” when some one blindly dismisses my opinions for crap and thinks there’s is fact.

You’ll also find u might spend a lot of time on the bus / in boring classes

“I only “argue” when some one blindly dismisses my opinions for crap and thinks there’s is fact.”

You do that pretty often yourself, MLDWoody. Pot/kettle/etc. Besides, your arguments were pretty crappy anyway.

Regardless, I just watched most of the press conference. I’m excited, and I think he’s going to be an excellent coach. I was unsure for maybe a few minutes when I heard the news yesterday, but if you listen to what he says, he really seems to be the best choice we could have made given the options (even over Harbaugh, IMO). He is completely dedicated to this university.

The whining from that mgoblog post is ridiculous (already addressed earlier). I hope that guy comes around soon.

Hoke has my support 100%.

If Harbaugh had even come he would be gone in a few years after UM had a good season. Sometimes the less flashy ride is more reliable in the long run. He worked wonders at SDSU which is not easy. If he can teach the kids to tackle and have that hardnosed attitude you need in the B10 he will do fine. It’s just much tougher now than when UM was winning all the time. The Little 8 have some teeth–at least some of them. The B10 actually needs a good UM football team. It’s better for everyone.

this is a no put-down zone

(also I would like to distinguish between disagreeing and having crappy arguments)

(I just realized what I say doesn’t matter, so disregard the above)

So… is Denard gonna stay?

When asked about the offense, Hoke mentioned just one player; Denard. He said he was special and that the coaches were going to make sure they use his talent. Whether or not they use his talent the way he wants it to be used is another story.

I foresee a situation where Denard will become our primary RB next year, but a playbook that will call for him to throw the ball 10-15 times per game while the QB is also in the backfield. Talk about confusing offense!

I am concerned about his saying that he likes the 3-3-5 defensive scheme. I do not think it can work in the Big 10, but Hoke is a defense guru, so who knows.

I should add that I think QB is a strong position at Michigan. Even without Denard, we have a competent QB in Forcier and a potentially good QB in Gardner. Losing Denard would not be the end of the world.

hard to call a QB competen when he can’t pass his classes

In an article about Denard his HS coach said he probably was gonna stay. Basically he doesn’t wanna sit out a year so staying is the lesser of two evils.

He was singing the victors at the basketball games and it was reported that he had a good chat with Hoke this afternoon. So hide your kids, hide your wife cause DR is gonna be raping errbody in the big ten next year.

hoke’s down-to-earth’iness personality is legit

Forcier is gone - officially transferred out.

I watched the entire Hoke press conference and I think he’s a great hire - just what is needed.

You are woefully misinformed, my friend. He flunked out and is currently attending community college to try to get a qualifying gpa to be able to reapply to Michigan under an athletic scholarship per NCAA rules. He didn’t really transfer anywhere.

My apologies. I got my information from ESPN radio. They were also making noises about the fact that Forcier is from San Diego, Hoke recruited him to play at SDSU and there ended up being bad blood between them.

I’m sure it is b.s., thanks for correcting me.

Apparently Robinson is returning

and… Mike Martin

and… if anyone cares (I do) Fred Jackson is also back

I just watched the entire press conference and I’m buying it. At first, it seemed like Hoke was just sucking up and ‘saying the right things’ but I started to feel the emotions. He really wants this badly. Whether Michigan football gets back to being a Big 10 championship contender right away is up in the air, but I know that this guy is willing to do anything that it takes.

@Alexandre, I don’t know how Denard can be a running back. He takes a beating as a QB as it is. Being a RB will be much more physically demanding. It’s not as if he can run it to the edge on every run play; he’s going to need to take it up the gut.

I think it will be interesting to see how Denard is used though. I honestly think he would make a dynamic threat as a WR even though that’s just ‘way out there’ as an idea. Something like a Devin Hester. Then Gardner could get the QB spot, but DRob is one hell of a talent.

And, I all of a sudden have this HUGE passion for Michigan again lol. Michigan had slipped from my favorite school to almost oblivion, but now, I am back to square 1. Go Blue!

Gardner is leaving

Since Denard is coming back I assume it’s to play QB… especially because now our QBs are him and Kennedy

Why would Gardner leave? He redshirted didn’t he? If he transfers, he will have to sit one year. In 2012, Denard could well be in the NFL and the job would be Gardner’s.

^Denard will never be an NFL quarterback. He’ll stay four years because it looks like he wants to play qb and Hoke is gonna let him. Then he’ll probably flame out as a slot reciever int the nfl. I think he’ll start at qb through 2013 and then Gardner, with the medical redshirt, will start 2014-2015. It will be interesting to see if Tater comes back and if he or DG is the backup.

Hoke coached at Michigan for 7-8 years. He obviously has fond memories of the program. Also, many Ohioans, especially those from Northern Ohio, actually grow up Michigan fans.

I agree that Denard cannot be the traditional, pound-it-in-20-times-per-game, type of RB. But he can be a great RB for running the ball on the outside, with 5-10 runs down the middle.

Also remember that as QB, he would also look at more than just his own route, but also see if there were alternative options down the field. That made him less aware of his own surroundings and more vulnerable. As RB, he would be able to protect himself better and take a hit better.

I see him getting 15 snaps per game at QB while still getting 15 carries. His ratio will remain the same, but we will not depend as much on him as we did in 2010.

Denard Robinson could be used similarly to a guy the Pittsburgh Steelers once had on their roster, by the name of Kordell Stewart aka “Slash” (played all 3 positions-QB/RB/WR).

I also think Hoke was a great choice. He definitely has his head and heart in the right place for the long haul.
