It's officially begun!

Thanks arwarw! Just scheduled it:)

Why do you suppose BU asks where else you’re applying?

I don’t know? A lot of schools ask this question though. My kids have always just left it blank.

Most schools will ask you where else you are applying, either in a form you fill out at the audition or in person during the interview. Some people are coy about it; my son took the approach of being low-key and honest. Some auditors immediately started comparing their own program to the ones he named, while others made “Hmm, interesting” noises/faces and moved on. Don’t worry too much about it. Feeling like a stuck record today, as I keep using my son’s Ithaca audition as an example, but they do ask you to write on the audition form a list of the places you’re applying, in ranked order of preference. He put Ithaca where he ranked it–third–and he got in. Again–don’t worry too much about it.

8 applications submitted and 5 auditions booked! I am breathing a huge sigh of relief. Of course LA Unifieds would be at the same time as dress for Our Town…keeping all the balls in the air doesn’t get any easier. You would think I would be a master juggler by now.

Congrats, bisouu!

Getting back late to 5boys from a several posts ago! I have no one left to apply. Just lurking to follow this group, wishing for the best for all and seeing where everyone ends up! Youngest son is at UNCSA. I’m still doing the happy dance :)

Glad to have the support Uva:).

Well, audition scheduled at DePaul. It sounds a little ominous:(. The whole call back thing. I think Times S did an audition there last year. Anyone else familiar with the audition process there? I like that they spend a little more time on the first audition, but judging by Times S experience, if you are not the type they are looking for, it can be over quickly, no matter how you do on your monologue.

I am sure there will be more of these…Applied EA for Emerson thinking that was what we had to do in order to open up the audition process but EA is for those who can audition on campus only. Now there is a glitch in my D’s application. So make sure to apply RD if you are not going to audition on campus by the EA date.

Yup… My S was going to audition for that EA date in Nov. but decided that he wanted a school that didn’t have high rises as their campus… so he is only auditioning for Chapman EA.

Chapman allows you to audition after the EA date and still be considered for it.

5Boys, the DePaul audition was a great experience for my son even though he didn’t get a callback. I’d say the initial part lasted about 2 hours, by the way (much waiting, of course!). Sounds like you are auditioning AT Depaul? We would have liked that, but it was my son’s only Unifieds outing. Very interesting day in NYC, and I think the on-campus audition process takes even longer regardless of whether you are called back. Out of approximately 35 kids auditioning that afternoon, 6 or 7 were called back. I loved the experience of seeing Ripley-Grier studios and the NY scene, but it would be great to see that new theater facility at DePaul. When’s your son’s audition?

Times… I signed him up for the DePaul Debut… which is an event where he will arrive on Friday Jan. 17th, visit campus…( can’t wait to see the new theater building as well), do some workshops, sit in on a theater class, and spend the night with a theater student. The next day at 8:00 am he will then audition. If he makes call backs he will stay till 3 pm, if not, he will be released at 11:00. It looks like if you make the call back you get to work even further on your monologue, and some assigned impromptu scene readings with a partner. I think my S will like it, no matter what the outcome. He decided to do a couple on campus auditions instead of all at Unifieds/consortium because it will be nice to not have such a jam packed schedule that one weekend. He will also be on campus at Chapman( an hour from home), UNSCA and BU. His drama teacher wants him to take a look at Roosevelt too, so hopefully we will have time that weekend in Chicago to check it out too. My S REALLY likes the theater scene in Chicago, in contrast to NYC.

Chicago is pretty fabulous for theater students. My son went to “Once” for free yesterday, got $15 tix to Ballet West on Sunday, saw “Spamalot” the week before for cheap, too. Also, it seems like the kids work, not just after school but during. They got to see “Spamalot” because somebody’s “big” was in it. (My son is at Roosevelt/CCPA. Feel free to PM me if you want to put your son in touch with mine.) DePaul, CCPA and Columbia are all within a 3-4 block radius,

Sounds great, 5boys! We did have a tour/info session at DePaul (old building, alas) the summer before S’s senior year, and they emphasized how it important it was to spend time with the place and people to gauge your sense of fit. My impression was that they really do care about getting to know the applicants and sensing how they would do spending four years there. My son loved Chicago and still hopes to spend time there working or studying at some point, probably after college. Now we just need to keep fingers crossed that you don’t get snowed in up there in January! :D

My D is at Roosevelt/CCPA with Jkellynh17’s S and loves getting to see all these shows! As upperclassmen they will be able to audition for shows outside of school pending approval from the faculty. Chicago is a great place to be a college student, esp a theatre student!

She is very, very happy with her choice of school. They have an extremely supportive faculty that promotes a family atmosphere. She is learning so much. We got to see them all perform 2 weekends ago in their Freshman Showcase, such a talented group of kids. They have another showcase in the spring. They have guaranteed casting (at least one show a semester) at CCPA so the 2 showcases count as their freshman on-stage time. Next year they will be in the general casting pool.

Feel free to PM me as well if you have any questions!

Thanks so much austinmt and jk… I am sure we will have questions as he goes a little further down this path. Nice to know I have a couple of great advocates for Roosevelt!

Been super busy with school and shows, but finished all of my apps except Otterbein (waiting on a prescreen callback). I have finally picked my Guthrie monologue, and hoping to film my prescreening sometime this weekend!

It looks like I’ll be doing just about all my auditions between NY Unifieds and Chicago Unifieds, minus an early notification Hartt audition.

For Hartt, does anyone know when the early notification acceptance/rejection goes out? And is it possible to be deferred if you do early?

Josh, early acceptance from Hartt arrived around December 26th last year. And you do not have to give them an answer until May 1, like all the other schools. EA is non-binding.

Did you mean deferred because you might do a gap year?

I think he means deferred as in re-considered with the regular application pool–as opposed to the accept/reject dichotomy that some schools use (e.g., NYU and Yale, at least in the past). Some of our in-state schools accept a relatively low number of EA applicants but defer some and take a second look with the rest of the applicants, and accept some of the in the spring.
