It's time for Vietnamese thread !!!

ipsen: Actually, I picked up the term here on CC. I never read an admissions book before applying.

anhanh: best of luck to all applicants, but especially Vietnamese ones. I went to high school in Singapore, so applied to both US and UK.

Cevonia, excuse me if I am too nosy, but did you apply as a Vietnamese citizen or with the citizenship of another country?

Good luck to all applicants, too. I am ex-applicant now, and the status will remain for the next 4 years.

ipsen: Indeed, you will soon be a student at Oxford, an enviable distinction indeed. In answer to your question: I am not a Vietnamese citizen; I hold a Swiss citizenship.

@ipsen: Laf is the only "top" LAC that has an engineering program, as far as I know. VNese students tend to apply to LAC, so I think it's easy to see why guys like Laf.
@anhanh: do you apply to Pton? I know they interviewed 1 in USA and 3 here in Ha Noi. but I don't think they put much weight on the interview. I even think that they have made the decision, regardless of the interview's result. We got the interview quite late, last Sat.

@cevonia: which school are you in?

BUcknell also has Engineering, so does Swartmore. and I applied all these

Hi. I am also a Vnese, applying to Yale, Will and Swat. I just wonder why Swarthmore is not a very popular choice among VNese?

Probably because it is not very well known outside of the United States, it's not as popular as, say, Yale is with international applicants. I think (and here I am generalising, possibly unfairly) that with Asian parents, who tend to put more weight on reputation and prestige, the fact that Swarthmore is less well-known translates into a lower number of Asian applicants. It is, in my opinion, a very big pity.

I second your opinion. It is indeed the reason for low numbers of Asian applicants to top and new universities in England as well.

@cevonia: which Cantabrigian college did you get offer from?

Ive sent in my SAT 1 application a week ago , hw long does it takes before collegeboard reply me. Also the HQ of collegeboard in Europe is in the same country where I am living

^ I got my SAT 2 result from Holland, methinks :D

ipsen: King's

It's about time there's been a Vietnamese thread.

Hey ya'll, I'm a Vietnamese Canadian, although I don't know any Vietnamese myself hehehe. Sophomore; 2 more years until college. Anyone here considering MIT?

Swat is well known with Vietnamese applicants (I mean those still live here)

@jthecanadian: I did and I was failed :D

ngohuongly88: I didn't apply to Princeton. Yeah I heard that 3 Vietnamese students had Princeton interviews. I thought that you stand really great chances as Princeton, in contrast to Yale, don't interview virtually all applicants. How did you perform in your interview :D I agree with you that they had half made up their minds before the interview.
Swarthmore is also famous for its engineering courses and indeed, it is one of the very few colleges that focus substantially on natural sciences.

@anhanh: I don't think I stand great chances :D thnx for your kind words anyway. I was quite relaxed at the interview. we just talked like friends. But I was a little stuck when he asked me: anything about urself that u want the adcoms know? I couldn't think of anything so I just said: i wish I could talked with them (like this) so they know that i'm very sincere/honest in my application. lol, such an answer!
still don't know why I forgot that Swat has a great engineering. hm.

How do you guys hear all these things? How do you know 3 Vietnamese students get interviews and what not? It could be more?

Is it close down there in 'Nam?

jthecanadian, ur location is pretty ironic ^^

Ahhh, a bit late 4 me to join in. My profile is exactly like anhanh except I'm from Hanoi. Same course/college/situation/sex..etc ^^

Still wonder who you are pooka... are you my last year classmate?. Neway, glad to see you here :D :D. Have you heard anything from the admission yet?
