IU a good, prestigious school?

zippo: yea im doing tues./thur. 9:30am - 10:45 am. Do you know if the K201 materials are the same as K204's minus the clicker?

reddogarchie: well you hav to pass A100 (C or better) to move on but you can keep taking it until you pass (you get 2 chances every semester, because it is a 8 week course and it is overed the 1st 8weeks and the 2nd 8weeks of each semester.). Also you dont lose your direct admit status because you didnt pass A100 i think.

OHHHHHHH I got zippo and dammitsam confused, lol.

reddogarchie,

First, the accounting course is not required for admittance to the business school--but it is required to graduate from the business program. Plus, it's a prerequisite for three other required accounting courses. Fortunately, Tiller (the only prof who teaches this course) schedules the midterm so that you can drop the course if you do really poor on this first test (all the grading is based upon two tests and attendance).

If you are really worried about getting through this course, I suggest the following: Take the class and do the best you can on the midterm, but be real sure to copy down the sample midterm exams he gives you before the actual test. Then if you do poorly (C- or worse), definitely drop the class, but get someone who is staying in the class to get you the sample tests for the final. Take all of these tests and study them on your own before retaking the class. Go to the accounting honors society and find someone who can explain it all to you and go over why the answers are what they are. Then retake the class. My son considered dropping the course and doing this (even though he had a B- after the first test), but decided to stick it out and just get through the course so he wouldn't have to worry about it later.

The thing you need to understand is that many of Tiller's test questions are quite tricky--and the only way to prepare for this is to work through them. I'm a CPA in two states, and I found them a little bit challenging because of their "trickiness". The concepts themselves are fairly straightforward. The only real reason the class is difficult is because there is so much to learn in only about 16 hours of instruction time.

Another option is to see if you can take a college accounting course the summer before coming to Indiana University--and then see if they will let you count this for transfer credit in place of A100.

Best of success--especially in accounting.
