IU Kelley Petition Tracker 2023

Workbook: uirr_adms_summary)
Is this accurate data?

So after reading on many other sites and this one, the numbers are staggering just how many they waitlisted.

To me this is Kelley’s way of buying time. They actually had told us by April 14th they would let us know. They let us know on March 6th. They could have taken all the way up to April 14th. By not doing so and then saying BY April 24th, they are buying time to see who declines. They are trying to keep all their options open.

The problem with this scenario is there were many students who were DA without having to go directly thru the petition process. They were admitted by the admissions office simply by meeting the criteria and getting accepted to IU. I sat in on several meetings with the admissions office, they emphatically stated that Kelley does not see the applications for those who put business down on their IU application. That if an applicant gets in IU the only way for Kelley to consider the applicant, who didn’t get a DA is thru a petition. This alerts Kelley to review the application. So all those DA who never petitioned that decide not to come to Kelley, somehow the admissions office needs to notify Kelley of those decisions in order for them to know the yield for further more admissions for the petitioners. I am not confident that will happen.

Additionally, everyone in this process knows you have to May 1st to decide on a college. Many will never decline a college but simply accept the one they choose to go to (if you don’t accept by May 1, colleges just put you down as a decline). This is a problem with Kelley’s strategy. Also, many kids who know now that they won’t pursue this waitlist, just won’t opt out of the waitlist (that everyone was automatically put on unless denied). They don’t want to be bothered with emailing anyone or “just want to see if they can get in” still but no intentions of going based on such a long wait. Also, many of parents and college counselors tell everyone that declining an option doesn’t open up space for others and this perpetuates the problem, when in fact it does actually open up space for others (not just at Kelley but at many of schools).

So basically, anyone on here or anyone you or you kid knows who has decided not to go to IU/Kelley needs to notify them immediately so it can open the door for a student who actually does want to go. Waiting until May 1st or simply not doing anything does actually take a spot from someone else.

Yes, Kelley looks to enroll about 2,500 first year students per year. It seems like this year they may have accepted a relatively higher number of direct admits. But, we don’t know this for sure, nor do we have access to how many of those direct admits there were or have already paid their enrollment deposit (which IU is tracking daily). Time will tell if they have to go to the waitlist.

Coud someone confirm that they received over 8,000 petitions this year? and also is it possible to know how many DA’s they got this year?

I also think over-enrollment is a huge issue for most schools right now. The last two years, colleges haven’t had enough housing for everyone and have had to put 3 kids in a room or provide a hotel or pay for private housing. I feel that a lot of colleges are under enrolling and putting more kids on the waitlist this year to see how actual enrollment pans out. Several of my son’s schools, I’ve read on different pages on CC, the number of waitlisted students is at an all time high. Not just IU.

did they get over 8,000 applicants this year? thats my main concern

like petitions

All that matters now are how many direct admits enroll and how many accepted petitioners enroll. That number (target 2,500) will dictate whether or not anyone gets off the Kelley waitlist.

At this point, treat the waitlist like a rejection and decide if you still want to attend IU and possibly go for Kelley standard admission, or choose another school where you did receive direct admission to business. You can’t count on hearing from IU Kelley waitlist prior to May 1. It could happen but likely won’t.

Curious to know where you get the target of 2500 DA’s? Never seen it anywhere and Kelley doesn’t tell you if you ask.

you could look at the class size for freshman year for the previous years

which is between 2400-2500

The entire Kelley first year target is 2,500, not just DAs. Source is this link, which someone else shared earlier:

We have the email saying the petition was received but we have not received any email? Anyone else not hear back yesterday? Checked spam/junk etc.

I agree with you as well. I think it is absurd that they would waitlist a twin and accept the other with the same stats. Crazy.

I emailed them and asked how many petitions they got this year. Apparently they got 5k petitions, and last year it was around 3.5k

They are trying to aim for 2200-2300 students this year for DA, and they got over 5k petitions this year.

So did they say how many they have admitted so far?

How many on the waitlist?

no, i tried asking

How many people do you think got DA’s this year, and how many are going to opt out?
