Hello again. In doing the net price calculators for these schools we come out with nothing in terms of financial aid (OOS). I believe DS would be a great audition and has top academic, leadership and ec stats; but should we bother with these schools and hope for merit aid? We qualify for good financial aid at some others (SMU, Oberlin, Vanderbilt). Really don’t want him to be accepted and then not be able to go. And of course at this point, IU and UMich are his top choices. Thanks in advance!
Both Michigan and Indiana give plenty of merit aid. The out of state financial aid will be an insignificant part of the package offered. My advice is don’t write off any school until after you’ve negotiated the aid package in April of next year.
Great to know! Thanks so much.
When my son applied to IU 4 years ago for BM, IU offered the full tuition merit scholarship. We were in the income bracket that does not qualify for any financial aid. Out of 8 music schools he was accepted, all of them offered significant amounts of merit scholarships. Do apply to all the schools first and decide later.
Yes we will! A happier household today, for sure
