Ivy material?

I know it's early in my high school career right now (I'm a sophomore), but what level school do you think I could get into if I kept up what I'm doing now?

I go to a competitive high school (ranked top 100 in the US), and I'm taking the most challenging courses possible and maintaining a 98 average. I've been taking acoustic guitar lessons at a prestigious music school for 7 years, and I've been on varsity track since 8th grade and this was my first year on varsity tennis (I did JV since 7th grade). I started volunteering at a nursing home over the summer.

I'm the Treasurer of art club and the prospective president for next year, and I'm also most likely going to be VP of Environmental club next year and I'm going to continue doing Masterminds club.

What level school do you think I could get into if I get high board scores?

This is not a chance section but, i’d need more information before i make a decision. ( class rank, classes you take, how big your wang is, etc…)

I’m pretty sure you’ll get laughed at if you go around saying you’re in Varsity Track. Mainly because it’s a walk-on sport, and there is only one division.

^^I lol’d .

CalvinTBOD - lol you should see our track team. Most intense sport I’ve ever seen. Definitely not a walk-on sport in our school.

running is that intense? lol, you need to move.

CalvinTBOD: Ouch! There’s no need to be rude. My school actually has a pretty good track program, so it’s not like I just walked on the team. It’s possible that I could have beat you in a 400 as a 13 year old girl ;)

I don’t know how other schools do it but at our school there’s three ways to achieve a varsity letter for track: Meet district qualifying time in any event, place top 6 or whatever it is to win points in an INVITATIONAL, or accumulate at least 20 points at dual meets throughout the season.

Definitely not walk-on.

NspiredOne - Don’t judge something if you haven’t done it. It isn’t the running that’s intense. It’s the early morning practices, three hour practices after school, additional swim practices, weight training, and a ****load more. I’m not saying that it’s the most difficult thing in the world, but I am saying that in our school, track is only for the truly dedicated. Those who treat it as a walk-on sport won’t last a week.

You seem so diverse! That could be a good or bad thing. While you appear extremely well-rounded, you seem to lack any sort of focus. While this doesn’t mean you need to have your life all figured out, it’s hard to find something that could really distinguish you.

You know how you can tell if you are ivy material? You apply to them and see if you get in or not…

yeah, attending the top high schools in America only makes it harder for the student to get into ivies, considering the competition they have with other students. anyways, school gets tougher as you progress, so maybe its too early for a chance thread. XP good luck!

@rrcjmcandless, actually i have but i discovered that i couldn’t stand running around a track continuously, too boring. So i do football. Anyhow, its definitely not that intense at my school yet we’re consistently one of the top teams in states in indoor and outdoor track and no we’re not some obscure state where there’s like probably like 5 high schools in the whole state. my school’s track team is just a naturally talented bunch.

This. Is. The. Truth.

TheYank: I agree. However, I was just asking your opinion about what level school you think that I could get into based off of what I’ve done so far. I’m sorry if my question offended you.

Ivies are a crapshoot. We can’t know until you applied and looked at the results.

How do you play a Varsity HS sport as a middle school student?

^ At my school you have to pass a fitness test to be eligible. Run a mile in under 7 minutes, jump so far from a stand still, push ups, sit ups, pull ups etc. 7th and 8th grade have to do this to get varsity eligibility.

No, you can’t. I’m a cross country runner. Well I used to be. When I got to high school it was in the same season as volleyball and I chose volleyball. But still, no, you can’t. Run the 8k and then challenge me.

It’s never to early to begin planning.
Find a focus so that when Ivy’s look at you ec’s they can figure out what kind of perosn you are.

Get into higher level courses, but not at the expense of a grade.
If your school offers I.B. do the whole diploma program. If it offers AP, do AP classes that you can handle and will slightly struggle in.

WORK YOUR BUTT OFF IN HIGHSCHOOL!!!
No joke. Freshman year was easy for me, but I did not take it seriously. Sophomore year I was placed in all advanced classes, it whooped my butt, i did slightly well but I was still not serious, junior year I was put in IB and it killed me. Now I wish I could go back in time and work harder. But I can’t so i’m giving this infro to future generations.

Work hard. Still be social, but aim for high grades. Work hard at your community service and EC’s.
Good luck ^__^
